If you have a prominent layer of fat blanketing your abdominal area, it may take longer for your baby bump to become obvious or you may experience a different kind of. Start by considering these guidelines for pregnancy weight gain and obesity: Single pregnancy. If you have a BMI of 30 or higher and are carrying one baby, the recommended weight gain is 11 to 20 pounds (about 5 to 9 kilograms).; Multiple pregnancy. If you have a BMI of 30 or higher and are carrying twins or multiples, the recommended weight gain is 25 to 42 pounds (about 11 to 19 kilograms).

How do you know if you’re overweight or obese? Being overweight during pregnancy can cause complications for you and your baby. The more overweight you are, the more likely you are to have pregnancy complications.

But there are things you can do before and during pregnancy to. How can I let people know I’m pregnant, not just overweight? By Brette McWhorter Sember, J.D., family law attorney If you don’t yet have the telltale pregnancy bump, a campaign of communication — both verbal and nonverbal — will clue people in as to why you’re getting bigger. When Kristi Caton was trying to have a baby, she knew her weight might be a problem. She has polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), a disorder of.

The earlier you can get your first ultrasound, the better, since it may be tougher to date your pregnancy accurately — both because ovulation is often more erratic in overweight women and because some of the yardsticks practitioners traditionally use to estimate a due date (the height of the fundus, or top of the uterus, the size of the uterus, hearing the heartbeat) may be difficult to read. How will being overweight affect me during pregnancy? Most mums-to-be who are overweight can expect to enjoy a healthy pregnancy (RCOG 2018a).Your weight may have no effect at all on your pregnancy or your baby’s birth.

However, if you’re heavier, with a raised body mass index (BMI) over 30, it does make it more likely you’ll be affected by complications (RCOG 2018b). The majority (42 percent) have mixed feelings, reporting that they like being pregnant but that body changes are uncomfortable. And 14 percent said they dislike how they look and miss their old body. “For many women, there’s a flip side to the thrill of being pregnant,”.

I’m quite slim so when I’m having an episode my stomach protrudes and I know I look about four months pregnant. Although my friends haven’t asked me outright, I’m often the butt of many. In pregnancy, the goal, according to the Institute of Medicine’s guidelines, is to gain 25 to 35 pounds if you are normal weight, 15 to 25 pounds if you are overweight, and 15 pounds if you are obese.

List of related literature:

In women who are overweight (BMI of 25 to 29.9) or obese (BMI above 29.9), weight reduction can decrease the risk of gestational diabetes, high blood pressure, and preeclampsia (a condition that includes high blood pressure, fluid retention, and protein loss in the urine).

  • I’m watching this because I have some weight to lose and I’m in my first trimester. I’m disgusted by food in general, I can’t eat anything. I’m hoping that means I have a girl!

  • I have the same problem so last month I had light period for 3 days I start feeling sick and my stomach is growing a lot and I am now start period it bright red and I feel the baby move I have gone to doctor and all test negative results I am feeling crazy I don’t know what to do anymore with period and my belly getting big and feeling moving they told me I have gas like really I talk to my baby and he response to me but I have my tubs tied from 5 years ago I am very confused ‍♀️ a lot

  • I think of the “eating for two” like this. You ARE eating for two, meaning that you have to think of somebody else, not just yourself, while eating. Your choices are effecting two people. Not eating double the food.

  • Litterally if she ever reads these comments, I seriously was so nervous about my pregnancy but her voice helped me through all 9 months

  • So im on birth control, i have a skyla iud, and ive had it for several months now… I have alot of sex with my bf (no condom). I resently started feeling nauseous alot and i am getting pains at night. I feel tired durring the day and i have lower back pain and pain near my shoulderblades that doesnt go away even after massaging them or resting. It has been hurting to have sex. This is knew feeling to me and im not sure if it is possible to be pregnant and have an iud like the skyla.

  • what if I have all the symptoms of early pregnancy, have taken two at home tests and they came back negative. and my period only lasted for about 3 days but at first it was very light spotting. then went a little heavy and then stopped. is it a possibility I could be pregnant?

  • I usually don’t comment on videos but today I have a question. My husband and I have been trying to conceive. I am 6 DPO and I have been feeling this light twitching in my lower abdomen. It doesnt hurt but its something I have never felt before. Do you know what that could be?

  • I’m currently a little over 8 weeks. I started to fall out of love with food before I even found out I was pregnant, and that was 5 weeks. I’ve lost right at 10lbs. I can’t eat. I literally ate 10 saltine crackers and a bowl of cereal for three days. Some days are better than others. Other days I throw up but it’s nothing but acid and it comes out like I drunk a glass of water. I hate the sight or even thought of meat. Yall, please pray for my baby and me in Jesus’s name.

  • I m 17 weeks pregnant and I lost 6 kg… I’m just adding healthy stuff in my diet and baby’s weight is 132gm in 15week 5 days ultrasound… I m from India

  • hey can someone help me? Im 21 yrs old and Im 2 weeks late (Period) i had a brown spotting for almost 1 1/2 weeks. And i do the PT And it came out negative. I feel so frustrated i hope someone can tell me whats happening.

  • A TIP: I’ve heard that when you are craving something, eat it AFTER eating healthy nutrients. That way you don’t fill up on just cravings, but you also don’t deprive yourself. You can use it as a reward for a healthy choice! Also you can reward yourself with a nap or spa treatment if you can say no to cravings! (Also some cravings can be from a deficiency of certain vitamins or iron or something, so if you have a persistent one, maybe ask a doctor if you need a supplement or test.. otherwise they are pretty darn normal!:)

  • This is my 5th pregnancy. I started at about 20 pounds above my ideal weight. I’m 14 weeks and down 3 pounds from pre pregnancy weight. My goal is to not gain more than 20 pounds and really eat healthy and exercise more. It’s refreshing to hear you craved healthy food! I have been too! I feel like that’s why I havnt gained my usual 10lbs in the first tri.

  • I’m 5ft 1nch at 22yrs 93 lbs I became pregnant with my first child duration of pregnancy 34weeks went up 108lbs “experience 34 weeks of morning sickness the full works “,, at 24yrs I weight 110 lbs I became pregnant with my second child duration of pregnancy 39weeks I went up to 126lbs,39 weeks of morning sickness “now I’m 39yrs weight 120lbs and 4 weeks pregnant not sure how it will go yet.

  • I had my period 2 days late this month i’m a virgin but i did some stuff a year before and i’m scared to death because my belly is little bit chubby and my breasts is increasing too my left breast often hurts helpp!!!!

  • Lol, if you don’t want any more kids, maybe don’t have unprotected ? Just a suggestion.

Sorry if anybody has done this comment already, I’m not trying to copy anyone.

  • idk if I’m pregnant or not haven’t had period in few months my mom said I looked pregnant an my bf said I been moody I took test after first missed period it was negative but like I said since then my bf an mom been thinking I look pregnant etc. I’ve been feeling lil sick no vomiting and dizzy random? am I or am I not pregnant idk an when is it best time to take the test again????

  • I am 15 and I workout 3 days a week (60 mins) following with stretches (30mins), and I run 6 days a week because I’m in cross country. I’m 180cm and 78kg.

  • is it normal for when ur on ur period. an the pain is all around like kidda up under my ribs an in the midd section not all at once but it will like hurt when ever it wants to? im scared i dont think im pregnant ive took 3 so far all negative….

  • I am starting out overweight but it’s my first baby. I have lost 5 pounds so far I’m in my first trimester though 12 weeks I eat alot of plain foods because the sickness but doesn’t stop me from eating chocolate ice cream

  • During my first trimester I felt so poorly, I could barely get out of bed. I survived of toast, toast and more toast. I’ve definitely gained!. I think this more to the lack of exercise, or just generally getting about. I was extremely active before with work, however with covid lock down and not being able to work and feeling soooooo poorly it’s been difficult to remain active, the lack of energy was over whelming for me too. So I’m just 18 weeks now and starting to feel a little more myself again, I’m going to make more of a conscious effort to get active. I generally eat very healthy with a vegan diet so I dont eat much junk food at all! I do think the key is to be as active as possible and not so much bread!! So here’s to getting back into an active lifestyle! Good luck to everyone else too. Much love ❤.

  • Ladies I have a question is it safe to do water aerobics while pregnant in first trimester and at all during pregnancy? My doctor told me to stop. The water aerobics instructor said it was fine and has given me modified excersise to do in the water with her. I told my doctor I am doing it to keep healthy and fit. Opinions please.

  • Thanks for doing this, for showing that a professional “lean” football player can be classified as obesewith pictures! ❤️ What is frustrating, though, is that this is even something to talk about at THIS point in time when it has been proven time and time again to not be an accurate representation of human health. A big proportion of your our healthcare system still uses this! Yeah, Muhammad Ali was overweight… smh

  • I’m 12 and I think I’m pregnant and I’m so freaking scared help me or reply because I feel like there is something in my stomach and a boy touched me I’m afraid wth do I do please reply asap and btw a boy touched me not in the private areas but like my arm will I get pregnant I sound so dumb but please respond

  • Hi! Im only 11 and I was just wondering, is it normal for younger kids or teens to always be anxious about being pregnant? Im always scared I am even though I know thats probably impossible, but i was just wondering if anyone else feels this way.

  • I’m 14. And I was raped on March 21st I’ve already had my period but I’ve been showing pregnacy signs I’ve already took a pregnacy test it said negative and now sense it was negative I stopped worries about it now this morning I woke up feeling nasues and my stomach look big not really big but big and when I wear pants they feel tight. And idk. If it’s just my mind playing tricks on me but I’m kinda freaked out

  • Oh, just say it. BMI is useless to determine health.

Nevertheless, it’s a huge factor in the health care you get, because if your BMI is high, especially if you’re a woman, any health concerns you express will be blamed on your BMI, and the only care you’ll receive is advice that you lose weight.

  • I lost 14lbs in a month trying to eat healthy and workout and found out I am pregnant about a week ago. I’ll be 7 weeks this coming Thursday and my goal is to lose 20-30lbs during pregnancy.

  • hi i have a big problem plzzz help me my periods skip waas 3 months and my home pergnancy test is positive my beta hcg is up to 25% but my ultra was negative my doc says you wil be wait on 10 days after ten days i will start your periods with medicine becaues my baby was weak i want this baby because this is my first baby plzzz tell me about se what can i do?

  • Kudos for talking about a sensitive topic. It’s been hard to find a lot on!! I usually have maintained my weight with 1,400 calories per day. I tracked for 100 days straight religiously (including brands etc) and more at other times, and the app said 1400 was the lowest they’d recommend and that I should lose 2 lbs per week. I didn’t lose a pound.. I’ve had other methods that worked for me better, but I like being better educated in calories. I just hope someday I get a doctor who doesn’t try to make me eat that much.. Everyone’s bodies are a lot different.

  • I am all for being healthy during pregnancy, but there is a reason that doctors never recommend weight loss during pregnancy…it is known to cause complications to the baby. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/324658#safety-and-risks

  • Hi, please can you tell me what is the probability that a woman who turns out to definitely be pregnant could have breakthrough bleeding around the time of her monthly period AND fail to get a positive pregnancy test in the first trimester?

  • i haven’t gotten my period for 9 weeks now and this morning i took a pregnancy test and it came back negative. but i have put on a few pounds.

  • in October had i said i feel cramps then the morning i have spotting and the heavy bleeding it was dark red and a little clot but not big and the it last for 3 days ask i tell you guys could it be implantation bleeding my estimate gas station was July 4 after my period and it last for 4 days could it be early preaguant

  • I haven’t had my period in 2 months and my period is always on time but all my tests are negative but I feel pregnant do u know why?

  • I was just wondering what causes your boobs not to be sore? Usually a week before my period they are really sore but this time there not. I’ve already ovulated as well and I’m about 5 days from my expected period? With my boobs not being sore does it mean that I’m going to miss my period or become pregnant?

  • I m almost 11 weeks and I feel my stomach full at all times. I m biting food just to make away the nausea. Usually getting healthy staff. (not constipation at all!!!)
But last one and a half weeks being lazy and started to have biscuits, a bit more white bread. Hard time to go toilet. Too much nausea and vomiting.
But anyway my usual weight (I recording it every Saturday) is 70-71 and this week week I m 72.2 kg

  • I haven’t had my period before l haven’t had thing and l feel like l am pregnant what does this mean please reply asap l am scared

  • My midwife constantly makes me feel bad about not gaining a ton of weight even going as far as asking my fiancé in front of me if I was REALLY eating or not. So demeaning..

  • I feel like you didn’t need to make a video saying, “BMI shouldn’t be the only way to understand the human body.” I’m almost 100 percent positive no one ever thought BMI should be used that way. I mean, did you think that before you made the video? Hard to believe.

  • First pregnancy i gained 50 lbs and only lost 25, then during second pregnancy i gained that 25 and lost 20. This is currently my third pregnancy and I am experiencing vulvodynia which I had in my first pregnancy that I suspect is connected to my weight gain. Now I need to go about losing this weight and being in better shape than I have in the past

  • Thank you for making this video! I am 20lbs down from when I found out I was pregnant. I was very sick for several weeks, but overall I have been consciously making better food choices and trying to exercise more, it helps that this baby doesn’t give me cravings for unhealthy foods I’m so tired of being big, and I really don’t want gestational diabetes for this baby like I did with my first 2 kids. After this baby I want to just shed this extra weight. I don’t even want to be skinny, just healthier. I started this at 5’3 and 236lbs, now 19 weeks and 216.

  • I’m 10 weeks into my first trimester and have not gained any weight. I eat a clean/whole foods and only drink water, and I also do a combination of yoga, weight lifting and cardio during the week. I was concerned that it wasn’t safe during pregnancy. I’m around 180 looking to get to 150 or so.

  • If your BMI is over 30 and you look in the mirror and have no muscle, you’re probably not an elite athlete, sorry to disappoint you

  • Thanks for sharing your experience! Ladies, remember that losing weight is not the goal during a pregnancy. If you happen to lose weight without intentionally seeking it, like the girl in the video, good for you, but always check with your doctor. If your BMI is under obesity, you should be gaining weight. Keep yourselves and the fœtuses healthy.

  • Thank you. I allow myself the mini cups of ice cream that are 200 calories when I crave sweets. But I don’t need the 600 calorie one. I did intermittent fasting before this. 1-2 average meals a day. No snacks unless in 4 hour window. But now I’m eating 3-4 small meals a day and I only eat until I am full.

  • Thanks for the tips!
I’m hoping to only gain 20 pounds this pregnancy (average weight bmi). I’m 14 weeks on Sunday, haven’t gained anything yet. Started 120 pounds lost 2 pounds because of morning sickness. Now I’m 119. I try to eat healthy, and I have cheating meals twice a week. Like a huge cheating meal! Yesterday cheating dinner was burger king!: bacon double cheeseburger, spicy chicken sandwich, large fries, small onion rings, 3 mozzarella cheese sticks.

For my healthy meal, here is what I had today: organic maple and brown sugar oatmeal in the morning. Organic Chicken breast sauteed in organic olive oil, organic brown rice, organic broccoli. Dinner tuna with organic brown rice and organic mixed vegetables. Snacks: whole banana, gala apple, organic almonds.

If I’m starving I’ll cheat with a huge meal. As I know baby is probably going through a growth spurt. But mostly I try to eat as healthy as possible.

  • My 2 girls I would get sick off junk, wanted healthy foods, low appetite weighed less after birth. My 2 boys I got sick off healthy food and was always hungry and packed on weight. I’m now with #5, no appetite, just want healthy. I’m assuming it’s a girl.

  • so the problem is procreating. some people are so unhealthy and so unatural that all they can do is have sex with whatever is around, and u end up with a human who sucks life from the world without contributing back. round and round it goes.

  • I was overweight during my first pregnancy and I didn’t have any of these issues they were determined becAuse I was fat I had gestational diabetes but they were wrong. It wasn’t until I had my son that I got hypertension blood pressure and headaches. Not all overweight and obese women have different pregnancies because they are bigger. I’ve know more skinny people to have gestational diabetes than plus so Swedish stop sending that negative vibe and get I some real plus size women in that office

  • I’ve got spotting before for 6 days but no cramps,,, not heavy as my period, just a small amount of pink discharges to brown… and i don’t know what was that mean for a moment that came into my life… I hope no bad for me.. but morning sickness, nothing,. I just want a sign but nothing… I think… those I mentioned I have at all so far.. or else, I forgot some..:) I have some kind of symptoms on February but, I don’t think it came from a pregnancy.:(

  • U make me feel a bit comfortable to extent i thought i was the only person who lost weight during my pregnancy. Sometimes i put on a pound and another time i lost it, its my first pregnancy with a girl as well i’m 38 weeks now eating a little better since 37 weeks as well, my weight was 149 before i was pregnant my last weight was 152

  • She’s gonna get breast cancer. Not only because she’s in her early 30’s but she’s also morbidly obese. But I do wish for the best of her. I hope she loves a happy life with her family.

  • Laura Hahn everyday even if i get alot of sleep i still take naps during daytime and ive never had sex the foods i usually love i eat then spit out and i gag i got a headache from listening to music so much my period hasnt come yet am i pregnant?

  • So I’m not dieting but I’m eating more healthier I cut sugar and bad carbs and working out daily for 1 hour hopefully I don’t gain so much weight because I’m already overweight lol

  • I’m at the end of my first trimester and I put on like 8 pounds. I just felt sick and didnt feel like eating healthy. Now I’m scared I put on so much weight that I feel awful. Thank you for this video and hopefully I can get healthy again for my baby.

  • Guys help so a friend of mine had sex last March then she got her period a week earlier but the period lasted for two weeks. And her period arrives this Monday exactly around her 28-35 days counting and it’s medium to heavy. But she is being paranoid thinking she’s pregnant cause she feels like her stomach are hard but she doesn’t have any early pregnancy symptoms or stuff. She is kinda chubby but this quarantine period she started exercising. So what’s your take on this?

  • Im only 5 weeks. Just found out. I haven’t had a appetite since before i knew i was pregnant. Amd i love food. I was already trying to lose weight before this miracle happened. Hopefully i can still get to my goal while carrying a beautiful life

  • I alsome having a baby or something lol I’m gonna make a channel and make a gacha life video before I make a video of me having a baby cuz meh a kid

  • My period has been missing for a while now (almost 5 months) and I took a test that came out negative two months ago, I’m irregular but I don’t know what to do now, there was no penetration but there was contact and a white-ish thing appeared on my nips like a week ago that smells like milk that went bad… Is it all in my head or? I’m overweight so that might also affect somehow

  • Should I go get a blood test or is it just a false pregnancy

I have felt quezy bloated and my hubby and I have both felt movement and seen it and 2 weeks ago I took 2 tests both came back negetive(in prier pregnacys they worked). I am over weight and have been for over 2 years I am on nepelexpnon (arm birth control due to be removed in December ) and have still have my normal heavy periods (had in both other pregnacys)

  • I started 97.6kg, now 33 weeks into pregnancy I am currently weight 92.6kg and my OB is happy with that. It all started from when I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I went from high starchy diet to completely cut off carbohydrates, I do full keto lifestyle, it wasn’t hard, I wasn’t starving at all, just have to resist temptation for any guilty food. Since my babe is still large (85th percentile) I plan to do intermittent fasting as well, predict further weight lost and I am looking forward.

  • “weird how a single decimal point determines if you’re over weight or obsess” uhh, not its not. There has to be a line somewhere determining what is what.
