Why is There a Line on My Stomach During Pregnancy?

Video taken from the channel: Momism Mommas

A dark, vertical line on your stomach is called a linea nigra. A linea nigra is very common for pregnant people. It’s less common but does develop in men, nonpregnant women, and even children. A.

The Pregnancy Line, officially called Linea Nigra, is the dark line that develops across your belly during pregnancy. It is possible that the line may have previously been there, however, because it was so light in color in went unnoticed. Prior to line prior to pregnancy is light or pale line is called the linea alba (white line). As far as pregnancy symptoms go, this dark line (a.k.a. the Linea Nigra (Latin for “dark line”) or “pregnancy line”) is one of the less bothersome ones compared to pregnancy sickness, heartburn, or swollen and achy feet – you can’t feel it and it’s not something to be worried about. The linea nigra is the result of fluctuating hormones during pregnancy.

One theory is that the hormones cause your body to produce larger amount of melanin (a compound responsible for giving your. Pregnancy hormones are behind the appearance of the linea nigra (Latin for “black line”). The condition is the darkening of your linea alba, the “white” or “colorless line” of skin you’d probably never noticed that runs between your belly button and your pelvis. When you are pregnant, as your baby and belly grow and stretch the linea alba, the line begins to darken and is known as linea nigra – Latin for ‘black line’. The line usually runs from your pubic bone up to your belly, sometimes continuing toward your ribs.

During pregnancy, thanks to an increased production of estrogen, your body begins to produce extra melanin. The answer? It’s her linea nigra – literally ‘black line’ in Latin – that appears during pregnancy, running from your belly button down to your pubic area. It replaces the ‘linea alba’ (white line) you had all the time before pregnancy but probably didn’t notice. What causes linea nigra?

Yes, it’s common to develop blotchy spots of darker skin when you’re pregnant, a condition called melasma or chloasma. Melasma is also sometimes referred to as the mask of pregnancy because the splotches typically show up around your upper lip, nose, cheekbones, and forehead in. Linea nigra is the darkened line that shows up on the abdomen between the pelvic bone and belly button in women. This is actually the Latin name for “black line”, but it isn’t always black. If you see a linea nigra, not pregnant or if you are pregnant, know that it comes from the hormone that stimulates melanocytes in your body.

A dark line down your belly may seem like it shouldn’t be a big deal, but with all the other changes pregnancy throws at you, it might be hard to swallow. Try not to let it get you down. Your body is working hard, doing incredible things to care for your baby, to nurture the life growing inside you.
