Women with PCOS are generally advised to avoid using “early result” pregnancy tests — you know, the ones that claim on the front of the box that they can detect pregnancy 6 days before your missed. Most false negative results occur when levels of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in the urine are too low for the test to detect pregnancy. This can happen if you take the pregnancy test too early, especially if you ovulated late in the month which can happen with women with PCOS. There is no specific diagnosis for PCOS, but your healthcare provider may perform a series of blood tests, a physical and a pelvic exam, and also use ultrasound pictures to detect abnormalities in.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a condition that affects between 6 and 15 percent of women of childbearing age. If you’re diagnosed with PCOS, it may be more difficult to become pregnant. Surprising evidence shows that PCOS related pregnancy complications can be more closely linked to the aspiring mother’s weight, instead of being directly linked to PCOS. When scientists compared a group of 66 women with PCOS with PCOS-free women, they found that being overweight increased the risks of PCOS and healthy pregnancy.

Normally a diagnosis of PCOS is reached after your health care provider has taken a medical history, performed a physical exam, pelvic exam, ultrasound, and various blood tests. The blood tests check hormone and glucose (sugar) levels. During the physical examination, the health care provider will examine the ovaries and uterine lining. Pregnant women with PCOS are more likely to have C-sections because of the pregnancy complications associated with PCOS, such as pregnancy-induced high blood pressure.

4,6 Because C-section delivery is a surgical procedure, recovery can take longer than recovery from vaginal birth and can carry risks for both the mother and infant. I was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) at 19 and was told that having a baby in the future could prove to be a challenge. It was hard to know what to do with this information. I didn’t even have a boyfriend (at least not one I liked). I began my psychology training around this time and found myself drawn to working with people struggling with their.

There’s no single test that, by itself, shows whether you have polycystic ovary syndrome, or PCOS. Your doctor will ask you about your symptoms and give you a. Women with PCOS can expect to have the same symptoms associated with early pregnancy: morning sickness, breast tenderness, and fatigue, to name a few.

The trick is knowing that you’re pregnant in.

To rule out a possible pregnancy and uterine fibroids if the uterus is enlarged, the woman’s blood or urine may be tested for human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), a hormone produced by the placenta during pregnancy, and she will have an ultrasound examination.
