Purpose of Grandparents Day The purpose of the holiday, as stated in the preamble to the statute, is “to honor grandparents, to give grandparents an opportunity to show love for their children’s children, and to help children become aware of the strength, information, and guidance older people can offer.”. The purpose is to honor grandparents and to promote family time. Grandchildren are encouraged to spend time with their grandparents and show them love. Often grandparents live away from the family, so time can be limited. This holiday sets aside time for the relationship to be remembered and strengthened.

On a societal level, National Grandparents Day gives us a chance to publicly affirm the identity and importance of grandparents, that they do play a vital role in families. It is also a day of giving – giving of self; sharing hopes, dreams, and values; and setting an example and advocating for future generations. The purpose of this special day is to “honor grandparents, give them the opportunity to show love for their children’s children, and to help younger generations become aware of the strength, information and guidance that older people can offer.”. The main purpose of celebrating Grandparents Day is to honor grandparents, to give them an opportunity to show their love for their grandchildren and definitely to help children know of the potency, and support older people can offer in the upbringing process of a child. Importance of Grandparents: Grandparent child care benefit: Child care is one of the best supports one can get from grandparents.

Since they had children, they know how to guide you how to handle pregnancy, how to handle infants, kids etc. Child care is very critical in terms of their health, nutrition, play etc. The Importance of Grandparents According to Dr. Karl Pillemer of Cornell University, the relationship between grandparents and their grandchildren is second in emotional importance only to the relationship between parent and child. Children benefit when grandparents are involved in their lives.
