  • I stopped drinking Jan 02, 2020 for weightloss. I don’t know if I have lost weight, but I sleep better and have more energy (I’m able to go to the gym 5 days a week now). My focus also increased dramatically. I thought I had the attention span of a squirrel. Turns out I don’t. I feel like I can actually accomplish something. The thing I fear the most is the peer pressure of so-called friends who will not understand. My solution is to have low calorie mocktails. I figure as long as I have a drink in my hand, they will be fooled and will leave me alone. My feeling is they think I’m criticizing them, so they don’t want me to succeed. If I’m drunk with them, then we’re the same. Good thing is my social life hibernates in the winter, so I’ll have plenty of time to build up the good habit of living booze-free and when vintage carshow and pinup season is back, I’ll have a stronger will forged with a good habit and a new topshape body.

  • You will lose weight by staying off alcohol because people eat fast food before drinking then it’s calories from the alcohol itself then more fast food before bed,at the same time your body is working to get rid of the alcohol instead of the food so the food gets left there till the alcohol is gone and on hangover day it’s probably McDonald’s for breakfast and pepperoni pizza for dinner.

  • 3rd point. Exactly exactly what happened to me.
    I forced myself to go without drinking for one month on July 2017, since August I have been drinking almost every day. From Aug till Jan 10 I have drank more alcohol than 2 previous years combined.
    Second problem is that I live alone and work online from home, since Aug I have disconnected myself from the world. I rarely go out or pick any calls from friends. Also hooked to porn.
    In the morning I regret and when evening comes I start thinking that I kind of love this lifestyle and start drinking again.

  • I’ve always found Dry January very easy. I never drink at home anyway and the majority of pubs are virtually dead for the first few weeks after the festive season anyway so why waste the cash. I’d find it a lot harder later in the year but in January it’s a piece of cake.

  • we have a rule in our house that we only have alcohol during a holiday or a special occasion only! friends birthdays don’t count as a special occasion either.

I usually do the January with relative ease albeit being a real heavy drinker normally. Problem is at the minute I have a big family birthday celebration coming up where due to the ‘culture’ I’m from etc and who I am within the family it is tbh ‘expected’ that I have a drink at this event, which although I have made the decisions you talk about here, there’s actually people here who because of this culture and this particular event are relying on me to join them in drinking. I don’t want to A. Drink but B. Don’t want to let anyone down as it where. I don’t know what to do here.

  • Thanks Annie, I am doing exactly what you said I made a firm decision, no matter what, I am going to do this. And so far, it has been good, I think my body is still detoxing… not feeling great yet, everyday I am still waking up with not too much energy.. but I keep thinking about how my body must be thanking me while it is ‘cleaning’ out all the chemical crap I have been putting into it for mostly every day over the past two and a half years… Thank you for your work, it is appreciated!

  • Dry January is a great idea. It’s a good idea to hit the reset button. And if a person can’t do it, it might show there is a problem.

  • Id struggle in the sense that i use it as a social crutch to ‘small talk’ with people that i usually find hard.
    Even drinks wise it’s difficult, how many j20’s can you have in one night?!
