Arthritis: 8 Early Warning Signs. Some forms of arthritis (there are more than 100) can strike anytime, but most often arthritis begins to happen to people in their late 40s or early 50s. The sooner you realize (and accept) that it’s happening to you, the soooner you can take steps to protect your joints against a fture featuring persistent pain or permanent damage. The most common early warning signs and symptoms follow. Typically, these can come and go over time.. #1 Morning stiffness. This is a classic symptom. The longer it takes to “loosen up” after you get out of bed, the more likely it is that you’re developing arthritis.. #2 Going up or down stairs becomes uncomfortable or even painful. You may feel stabs of pain in a knee, or the joint may occasionally lock.. #3: Sudden, sharp, stabbing pain in a big toe. This is a symptom of gout, the second-most common form of arthritis and the most common type of inflammatory arthritis. The toe joint will also look red, and feel warm and and tender when you touch it.. #4 Fatigue and flu-like symptoms. Many people don’t realize that arthritis can cause chronic tiredness, loss of appetite, weight loss, anemia, and/or fever just like the flu.. #5 Frequent soreness or pain in the hands, making them uncomfortable to use sometimes. Things like buttoning a shirt, tying shoelaces, turning a key in a lock, grasping a doorknob, snapping fingers cause discomfort or even sharp stabs of pain.. #6 Bumps appear on fingers. Excess bone grows in joints causing reduced flexibility, disfiguration or deformity at the joints. The joint is probably also stiff to move, although not necessarily painful. Sometimes this excess bone (known as a bone spur) happens in the toes too.. #7 Chronic pain discourages you from participating in activities you normally enjoy. You start avoiding family events or other activities you feel worn down by chronic pain.. #8 Pain disrupts sleep patterns. Either you have trouble falling asleep, or pain wakes you up during the night.. Early warning signs of arthritis can sometimes be deceptive for those who are physically active. You may think you didn’t warm up enough, or “worked out too hard” when soreness or stiffness appear. But, in fact, it may be an indication that arthritis has begun.
The early signs of rheumatoid arthritis include joint stiffness, a decrease in range of motion, and fever. See your doctor if you think you may have RA. Symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis may include: Joint pain, swelling and tenderness for 6 weeks or longer Morning stiffness for at least 30 minutes More than one joint affected, especially small.
This is when entire fingers or toes swell to look like sausages. Signs of dactylitis can help doctors distinguish psoriatic arthritis from rheumatoid arthritis, which. Pain, loss of range of motion, and joint swelling all can cause a person with rheumatoid arthritis to have a noticeable limp. It is not unusual for a young child with rheumatoid arthritis to have a painless limp as the first sign of the rheumatoid disease.
This is a classic arthritis symptom, especially when waking up in the morning or after sitting at a desk or riding in a car for a long time. Morning stiffness that lasts longer than an hour is good reason to suspect arthritis. 4. Difficulty moving a joint.

The pain and swelling of erosive hand osteoarthritis may suggest rheumatoid arthritis, although systemic inflammatory signs and other typical features of rheumatoid arthritis are absent.
One of the early signs of development of rheumatoid arthritis may be stiffness of the fingers, particularly in the early morning (‘early morning stiffness’) which usually decreases during the day.
For example, rheumatoid arthritis may have an acute sudden onset accompanied by raised temperature and severe joint pains, or more commonly a slow insidious onset with general aches and pains, which gradually get worse and more regular.
Rheumatoid arthritis patients typically develop painful swelling of small and large joints over a period of weeks to months.

Psoriatic arthritis might also cause spondylitis, sacroiliitis, chest wall pain from enthesitis, arthritis mutilans (destruction of phalanges and metacarpals, causing telescoping of fingers), conjunctivitis, and Achilles tendon and plantar fascia involvement.
Arthritis is defined by intra-articular swelling or the presence of 2 or more of the following signs: limitation in range of motion, tenderness or pain on motion, and increased heat or erythema.
Heat, redness, swelling, and tenderness are signs of an inflamed joint, possibly caused by rheumatoid arthritis, septic joint, fracture, or tendonitis.
Characteristic symptoms are pain on exertion, followed by aching Morning stiffness is absent or lasts for no more than 15 minutes, whereas morning stiffness in inflammatory diseases, particularly rheumatoid arthritis, lasts longer, often for more than two hours.

My knees swell so bad that it’s hard for me to even walk without pain. What I don’t understand is that my knees will swell from just doing minor activities. I can drive to the store and walk around for 30 min or so and by the time I get back home, my legs are hurting really bad and both my knees are swollen. It can take up to a week for the swelling to go away.
Though I don’t know of a genetic link, my mother has it and I’m worried that I have early signs (fat pad atrophy, knee bump, stiffness when very hot or cold, a positive ANA. ). I’m not yet 40, so I don’t know how common it is for younger women-under 50 or even 40. I also run a couple times a week, but not a ridiculous amount. I never wear uncomfortable shoes, because I have very little fat on the bottom of my feet (it hurts to not wear cushioning slippers around the house).
Crazy thing is I have every last one of theses symptoms I do have a pain specialist for my back now because my MRI came back with arthritis in the lower part of my spine, bulging desk and fractures in my spine that they say is old so they can’t fix it since the beginning of 2018 my knees have been giving me problems sit and lay down it doesn’t matter it hurts they only prescribed me muscle relaxer and nerve blocker next week I am getting 1 out of 3 procedures done to remove 4 pain nerves in my spine

I went to a rheumatologist with all these symptoms and he told me there is nothing wrong with me and I’m imagining it any tips on how to deal with the doctor?
