What face masks actually do against coronavirus

The CDC recommends that Americans wear facial masks when they go to public places, such as the grocery store. But this is only one part of a multipronged effort to stop the virus’s spread. To Curb Coronavirus, What’s Behind the Wearing of a Mask? The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday recommended wearing cloth face masks when going out, especially to places like grocery stores and pharmacies. Birx, a member of the president’s coronavirus task force, made clear that wearing a mask would not replace the need for frequent hand-washing and continued social distancing.

Cloth face coverings help curb the spread of the coronavirus, studies suggest Whether or not to wear a mask has become controversial in the United States. People across the United States are donning homemade masks in an effort to curb transmission of the coronavirus. Wearing a mask is not meant to be a replacement for social distancing. As this video from the World Health Organization shows, you should take off your mask by removing the elastics or straps from behind your ears. Don’t.

The bottom line, experts say, is that masks might help keep people with COVID-19 from unknowingly passing along the virus. But the evidence for the. You can definitely still get coronavirus even if you wear a mask. The virus can stay alive on surfaces for up to 3 days, and it’s easy to touch your face whenever you’re not wearing a mask. Amy Price, a senior research scientist at Stanford’s Anesthesia Informatics and Media Lab, maintains, in contrast, that the primary benefit of wearing a mask is to protect others and reduce.

Birx, a member of the president’s coronavirus task force, made clear that wearing a mask would not replace the need for frequent hand-washing and continued social distancing. Another concern is that the recommendation could further strain the supply of medical-grade masks for health care workers, if consumers flooded the market to get their hands on one.

  • How do most people know if they have coronavirus. Even if you have symptoms, is it flu, is it a cold, is it hay-fever. It seems very convenient that this virus has the same symptoms as most colds and flu. Does it a tally exist? There are reports that it has never actually been identified. Is it just a bad flu season we are going through.? So mant anomalies. I have my suspicions

  • Either you are sick or not you should be wearing a mask, some country’s are already wearing a mask way before Covid America is so behind

  • so I should be wear a face mask when I go outside and I am not around any one? I wear a face mask when I am have to go the store and any place where I am going around others. I try run in one and felt bad because I did and even bike one and felt bad for for couple of days.

  • WHO website:
“Masks on their own will not protect you from COVID-19. “

  • And main thing about wearing masks during this pandemic is to cut SPREDING. N95 masks not helping with that. Atleast you are not wheaing regular medicine mask on top of it.

  • Americans criticize asian countries, yet those Asian countries took the initial blunt of the pandemic and actually did something useful about it within a month and wow, look how the numbers in south Korea immediately started to decline when enforcing tight safety policies. Almost as if being safe and wearing a mask and being in quarantine (except for essentials of course) actually helps . Time to wake up America and use your brain for once to make a correlation to your lousy safety habits and your numbers.

I’m American too btw and I hate how America isnt following countries who are actually successful in controlling the virus, yet complain about their numbers but embrace lousy safety habits

  • This cv 19 pandemic is a hoax. There is no reason to shut down the country. Out of 153,000 deaths the media claims were due to cv 19, the cdc said that only 9,210 deaths were actually caused by cv 19. The rest were due to other causes.

  • What I find interesting is that before face masks were mandated, there were many health directors and personnel talking about the negative health effects, and potential unintended behavioral impacts of community-wide mask ordinances that might INCREASE one’s risk of infection, and they were stating this as their primary reason against issuing mandates. Then the mandates were issued and now nobody is talking about harms, potential consequences, or any other negative effects. And you have countless people believing there is absolutely no risk to prolonged use of face masks.

Unfortunately, there are many and a lot of ppl have been misinformed and believe that the mask either benefits you or does nothing. That’s simply not the case.

  • WHO website:
“Masks on their own will not protect you from COVID-19. “

  • !!! THIS JUST IN!!!
The WHO says breathing puts people at risk of contracting COVID-19. The populace has dutifully responded with unwavering compliance. Here’s a snapshot from a recent WHO briefing with updates: “100% fatality so far, but we’re slowing the.01% risk of contracting and dying from COVID-19. Well done, shee-er…people!”

  • So if you walk through a store and touch something and rub your eye you can get the virus even with your mask on. You need a pretty good mask that can actually block the virus. Bandannas or the cheap surgical mask is not effective. Your eyes are also exposed so what good is the mask really?

  • There is no science correlating face masks to self-preservation. There
is no logic in preserving others first, since if I am sick or dead, I
can care for nobody else. Fear and panic is the fuel of this mask fad,
not science. There is no evidence that treating the majority (well) as
the minority (sick) lowers cases, historically, in current research or
in any demonstrable & repeatable experiment to show empirical
evidence. NONE. Epidemiology and immunology both support distancing and
hygiene as the only routes to reduce cases. But then, we do that anyway,
when common sense dictates that we stay away from sick people and wash
our hands. Done. The common flu virus is also both communicable and
    latent for days…

  • is there a risk that we breath the droplets that sticks in our face mask surface? cause we breath while wearing face mask is there a risk from getting infected?

  • In the Philippines, you must wear a mask and face shield or you get arrested.

That’s how desperate they are to keep safe while in public.

  • Masks have been assumed to be effective in obstructing forward travel of viral particles.  Considering those positioned next to or behind a mask wearer, there have been farther transmission of virus-laden fluid particles from masked individuals than from unmasked individuals, by means of “several leakage jets, including intense backward and downwards jets that may present major hazards

  • Come on. They “work”. So wrong the masks are designed for bacteria not virus. Virus go right thru. Droplets land and the virus continues. It’s a ok precaution but it does not really do much.

  • Wow. Civilians and Military are so different in their training/learning. We didn’t know that Designer masks and Normal air-conditioning unit could stop a deadly Pandemic Agent. News flash, the easter bunny is not real.

  • An N95 mask stops 95% of bacteria. A cloth mask stops 3 (THREE) % of bacteria. Viruses are smaller and pass through. The SARS-CoV-2 virus is about 1.5microns in size and passed through any mask

  • If its not airborne wtf is the point of it, the only way to get it is if an asshole coughs on your face, their hands or on some stuff because they weren’t raised right,

  • Antimaskers be like
    Freedom:I will
    Be Safe:We will
Be Smart:We will all be smart
Wear Masks:No just no my freedom to wear masks are rpk

  • We should become like THEM. When entering a business, we should bring our own thermometer and check THEIR temperature, obtain THEIR names and phone numbers and ask THEM if they have symptoms of COVID-19, and if THEY recently travelled abroad.
And if THEY refuse to cooperate report THEM to the authorities. Remember, people THEY have the same rights as us. This is written in our Constitution, and don’t be afraid to remind THEM!!!
