  • I can’t say enough about how beautiful she is and her message is so strong!!!! Talk more….say more….get out your message!!! She is by far the most gifted female alive today!!!!

  • I am in therapy to cope with the never ending pain and no offense to her but she has not said anything that i have not heard on YouTube. Suffering is a torment.

  • this was the most beautiful video i have ever seen! it made me cry, it made me laugh, it made me feel, but the most important thing is that it made me ask some questions about the meaning of my life, my story and the stories of the people i know and don’t know…thank you infinitely!

  • Sometimes it’s not even the pain but the reality that the pain will never ever get better or leave you once and for all, and the scary morbid thought of always being in a state of disability. Then when you look outward to other peoples happy healthy lives, it can incise you to your core. “Why Me” is the mental chorus that plays in your head. “Why Me…” That is what chronic pain is.

  • I can totally relate to this, but i fear to even share this. People might look at me differently, they might see this as a call for sympathy. And some might even say that i should stop wining about my pain. All i want is for people to i understand that i don’t choose to live like this. I am living a certain way not being who i actually am and that bothers me every minute every second more than the pain itself. The only motivation i have is listening to my doctors, try my best to come out of this loop and one day i ll be me again.:)

  • What a great description of my life. I have shared this to members of my family, I know they try but they cannot truly understand.

  • a wholesome clean diet, meaningful work, companionship and joi de vivre -that’s what we need in America. Their climate and location also look wonderful.

  • My coworkers laughed when I told them I would burn calories with “Supreme Fat loss”, but then I showed them the results. Do a search on google for “Supreme Fat loss” to see their reaction.

  • Pain started in nov 2011 and still to this day it still the pain is still there if not even worse. talk about emotional pain..depression/sadness/dark deep thoughts! I HATE it!!!

  • For some reason Rachel’s story’s have truly inspired me to to make some BIG changes in my Life, her words have touched my heart, thank you Rachel,

  • “Remember you’re not a writer”….wow!!! If you can WRITE then you are in fact a WRITER. Who are these ridiculous people? LOL Pretty sure I am a writer too. Just wrote this entire comment on my own. I might be a publisher too, just haven’t realized it yet.

  • I am Okinawan living in Singapore for 27 years I think secret is relaxing life style & food and I think I can not live such a long, cos of stress life here….

  • Maybe they learned to swallow ther pride better an keep ther mouth shut. They learned a lesson already I’m sure they wouldn’t wana learn it again.

  • Balance is intriguing.

It is morbidly funny….so many become inundated with the abundant nastiness of life.  It can be difficult to see deeper!  So they turn their back on the beauty, positive potential and strength of mankind.  Yet others want to pretend there are no things that go bump in the night.  That all is good (it just all illusion after all) and some force will take the bad, toxic people away.

Both extremes (more so than the middle) miss out on the body / mind connection….without the fluff.   They fail to see the essence in their stories, and the lessons surrounding them.

I do not agree with all covered here.  However, I do think the content can stimulate some intense thoughts and feelings.

  • This was a very nice video, and I love you Rachel, you bring love through your stories and made my life change for the better, thank you!

  • I wanna visit Japan so bad, back when I was like 13 I used to watch an anime called “Inazuma Eleven” and one of the side characters was a surfer from Okinawa. They made it look like the best place ever back then, and it certainly does. This whole vibe kind of reminds me of my region. Kind regards from the Dominican Republic

  • I would like to add that since not all of us can be life saving doctors or inventors, etc., that almost as life rewarding is to, at the least, not do bad things nor tread heavily in a negative way on this earth.  This video is almost religious!  I think we could rank it as almost as good as the Three Prodigal Sons or the story of making wine from grape juice.  Thank you very much.  I will check out other UCTV offering too, thank you for that too.

  • Was okay, I prefer Eckart Tolle’s teachings for infrastructured world application, and buddhist teachings in general when I don’t have to be among houses and technology. Thanks for the upload

  • As you know nothing about me, you are making a baseless presumption, which is meaningless. Only idiots make baseless presumptions. Intelligent people never do, because they know that making baseless presumptions is meaningless. Do you get the difference?

  • Only the people in chronic pain understands, so 99 % do not have the slightest knowledge. This is all about the pain making you lose you sanity. Thank God for this lady educating people to this immense suffering.

  • This was very well done.  You asked “what is the purpose of life?”   It is to know, love, and serve God (love).  See love in each and everyone during each and every moment.

  • Sage wisdom from one of my faves Rachel Naomi Remen-throughout. Inspiring reflection questions at 32:00 Recount and review my day backwards….What surprised me today?
Review my day again… What touched my heart today?
Review my day again… What inspired me today?

  • The only thing they diagnosed me with was the so called Fibromyalgia. These pains and associated symptoms have literally stopped me from living never mind all my other goals including studying, working, driving, travelling, earning a living. I am sat here crying at the dinner table having fallen asleep many times today. I have a multitude of issues which the GPs are continuously ignoring. I’ve blogged about it this morning if you would like to read https://glass-full-ish.blog/my-health-is-deteriorating/

  • This young man is a shining star in my world. He challenges me to look for the beauty in the day (BID) He has taught me to Live this life to the fullest! I am blessed!

  • Some people do need to see the end of their life that close to start seeing the rue value of it. Wonderfully, some people have imagination that is vivid sufficiently to see that without having to get really that close to that end. They have the same realization as you did without having to become a soldiers. They also see that value in life of others and they fear to be a cause of ending their valuable lives just to become a student who learn some appreciation.

  • Chronic pain made me suicidal. I can’t be what I wanted to be. This fucked up my life. Wish I were healthy again. Thanks for the video.

  • The need for stories? Oh yes, it’s as someone once said, “If you want to hold people’s attention, talk about people.” Rachel, thank you for your captivating presentation.

  • Thank you I really get it and I try to live this way. Material things arent so important. I thank God for giving us health and work

  • This was very good.  My Father just Died a few days ago and it was quite sudden.  He chose not to have anything to do with me and I’ve always felt his abuse which has affected our whole family ruined our lives.  I’ve  always felt damaged and broke.  I am not going to his funeral. Its the first time I have ever not been afraid and its because he can’t hurt me anymore.  Maybe this is irrelevant but I just got a lot out of this here and its got me thinking.  I am very glad I listened to this.  Feels life changing.  This was for me really interesting.  Thank You so much.

  • She is soft spoken and her voice is very clear,i love her lecture..Her talk made me realized to count more my blessings and appreciate LIFE:)

  • Stories have the power to help us to live beyond our limitations, beyond even our beliefs about ourselves. And the best stories give us new eyes. They help us to see ourselves differently, to see life differently. They help us to become more without becoming different. They help us to find the deeper meaning and satisfaction in the lives we are already leading.

  • Spending an hour of my day just to look for videos like this one is really worth the time. She has captivated my attention and heart in the most profound way. Thank you Dr. Rachel Naomi Remen.

  • As a holistic therapist who also hears people’s stories, I am humbled when people want to share with me their deepest sorrows and joys. I understand that making meaning of our lives may be our greatest gift to ourselves and others. So many times people miss it entirely in the course of running their busy lives or they misinterpret it due to their early beliefs and identities. I think finding meaning may be our biggest challenge in health and wellness. Thank you Rachel for sharing this I am going to add the journaling questions to one of my treatment protocols. It is one I have come across already via the work of Dr Gabor Mate in his book When the Body says No.

  • I watched this talk almost 10 years ago and found it incredibly inspiring. I had forgotten the title and the doctor’s name, but I’m so glad to have come across it again today. I’m also happy to say it’s just as profoundly moving as I remembered. ♡

  • “I think the art of living is less about having the right answers than about having the right questions. And sometimes the questions that help us to live have no final answers at all. And you can carry one of these questions with you all of your life, finding deeper & deeper answers as you grow in your capacity to engage with life.”

Highly recommend Ms. Remen. You can increase the speed to 1.25 without missing anything.

  • Lovely woman, lovely stories. It’s strange to me that people don’t know these things from childhood. As my father disappeared into the void from cancer of the esophagus at 46, when I was 5 years old I learned without even being old enough to have any inkling of life’s complexities that life is about simplicity, a smile, a walk in the woods, laughter, creativity, compassion, joy, and sharing others fears, and pain until they go away. Unless they directly sustain life, material pursuits are a complete waste of your / our time.

  • AS A FORMER SOLDIER,I NEVER RECOGNIZED HOW IMPORTANT LIFE IS UNTIL PUT IN A POSITION WHERE LIFE CAN END IN A MINUTE..I APPRECIATE EVERY SECOND EVERY DAY..ENJOY LIVING AND LOVING.

  • This is a very inspiring talk and i took alot away from it, i applaud her sharing so much with us all. However, i find one of her lines a bit irrelevant, misplaced and misused…i do hope i misunderstood the way she used it or im reading it the wrong way.
30:40 “Being a guy, he didnt identify what it was right away”

  • It touched my heart and this is really inspiring. Completely align with the way I want to live my life. My parents always said that I was an artist. I didn’t believed them. I thought the were saying I was to sensitive or “not intelligent”. I can finally make peace with myself and learn from now on to live my life artistically. Completely present to the treasure in front of me. So many thanks to be who you are and your sharing it so elegantly.

  • Nearly every word she said was SOOOOO true it broke my heart she described it exactly how it is I carnt stop crying how long can I keep going

  • Praise the lord!!!!!!!

  • You truly inspire to live this life by design! Each day I hear your words “living life by design or default”. Thank you for sharing your joy and desire to live life to the fullest!

  • I am one of those people u speak about in this video. I live in Ontario Canada and I am not able to afford your sessions but I would really be able too. Being on an disability goverment pension is terribly hard.

  • I miss hearing Gloria teaching now. Is she doing ok? She’s been my favorite for YEARS and now she’s not out preaching and teaching anymore. I hope she is doing ok. I was excited when I saw this video and was March 2020 but it’s a repeat from 2010, which is still awesome, I’ve just heard all her older stuff so much I’d love to hear a new teaching. Prayers she is strong and healthy! She is definitely the Queen of Health and Long Life teachings and she’s living proof of it too! Love you Gloria!

  • She really means what she is saying. I respect her for her service she has given to humanity. Each of her stories is an eye opener, like a wake up call. The message will ring in your head long after you hear it. One of the greatest video i have ever seen.

  • I love this kid even though we’re @ a distance physically We are still able to stay in contact in a meaningful way, don’t know what I would do without him, #keycomponent #give #famfirst #8daysaweek, that B.I.D. Piece was great advice, as I’ve continued to grow and learn to let go I’m always trying to learn different ways to stay positive and as I have journaled I’ve always looked at it as a way to talk about the bad things that happened in my day you know what I’m going through, how I can have better days things of that nature. This way it starts off positive and then will manifest throughout my journaling and the negative won’t be so effective and then I will end it at a positive note as I usually do.
