Marijuana is a lot more than just THC a pharmacologist looks at the untapped healing compounds. Submitted by Marijuana News on Fri, 03/15/2019 10:34. Medical marijuana is legal in 33 states as of November 2018. Yet the federal government still insists marijuana has no legal use and is easy to abuse.

Nutritional hemp products derived from “industrial” cannabis (the nonpsychoactive kind) contain only trace amounts of these healing cannabinoids, while therapeutic cannabis, which includes the kind people smoke, contains much higher levels of an anticancer substance known as tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC.

  • I click, I hear a man voice trying to sound feminine, so I run away as fast as I can because our minds don’t need more confusion.

  • Praying for a world where anyone can have access to Cannabis. So many in need out there who can’t have it coz it’s stupidly illegal.

  • Smoking will evaporate 50% of the THC so only 25% get into the blood stream. THC is transdermal so it moves through barriers into the blood and brain. THC and other cannabinoids store in our fat cells because it is food for our bodies and release whenever a receptor become depleted. Autopsy of Alzheimer’s patients show they have missing or depleted endocannabinoid sysytems.

  • Thank you so much. I have multiple painful health challenges, the most ferocious being Fibromyalgia Syndrome with IBS and a whole lot of other issues that go with this health demon. Pharmaceutical treatments were a nightmare to endure and only seemed to make my life more dysfunctional. Then, my physician reluctantly agreed to sign the papers for me to access cannabis for medical purposes at a well known and long standing Compassion Society. It was a long journey of learning what worked for me and what didn’t but finally it was a combination of a good high THC content salve and edible oils of Indica strains yet with a high THC level. I am not a stoner but the relief and any side effects we’re positively life changing. The THC was so beneficial for stimulating my appetite (Very very thin and frail body), calm the frequent nausea, and move me out of my depressed state because the pain was now much more tolerable and my memory problems began to recover so that my shame and anxiety about that abated. This plant is a common weed in many countries just like many other weeds that have wonderful health benefits. This plant is sacred and belongs to the people of the earth to help regulate and heal their imbalances. I shudder to think of what the pharmaceutical companies are plotting to do to get into this lucrative market. The strains need to be studied but kept pure. WHOLE PLANT medicine is crucial here because all the cannabinoids, terpenes, pinenes, and other chemical compounds in this plant work in SYNERGY to balance our health naturally. When someone yells me there is a PURE THC extract available I shudder. PURE CBD extract I think of industrial hemp and how literally thousands have jumped on this bandwagon but whole medical plant strains like Charlotte’s Web should hold true for creating medicine and the THC is minimal but still perfectly in harmony with this strain’s medical applications. Mat we move forward holistically and not get into creating single extracts or pharmaceutical compounds out of this beneficial plant.

  • 2 grams of average quality marijuana at 20% thc (200mg/per g) for a total of 400 mg thc lol 2 fat joints 1 gram joints!! Lol its super easy to smoke a shit ton of thc vs eating lol this is fried

  • Ive been diagnosed with limited cutaneous systemic sclerosis with lung involvment in December of 2018. I can tell you for a fact cbd by its self is snake oil. Ive worked in cannabis industry for 15 years. Take a look at Rick Simpson’s videos. High levels of thc combined with cbd is the curing recipe. Full plant extracts. It works. Ive seen it with my own eyes. I currently use it to easy inflammation and pain management

  • I believe weed is not a harmful drug in some sense..But it inhibits our growth in soo many ways..anything that’s makes you be complacent, lethargic, tired (besides food) and gives you a false sense of fulfillment or satisfaction (dopamine as well) is not good for is soo much more..I want to start doing CBD daily for the anti inflammatory properties (I’m 25 years old) I fast daily more I get soo much drive off this

  • Thank you for spending your time to create this video and your others. This kind of thing is very interesting to me and your style is fun. I look forward to more.

  • Pretty much every mind altering substance you take “replaces” your neurotransmitters by imitating them. This video said nothing Cannabis users already understand and only puts it in this weird negative light with the clickbait title.

  • Hey man! I really do love your videos. I sometimes just watch them for fun. Haha

Also, would it be possible to make you videos a bit longer? And explain certain things a bit more? I’ve just started med school and it’s a bit hard for me to keep up.

ALSO, The way you express certain concepts is absolutely phenomenal. You most definitely have an awesome talent.

  • Thank God I live in Canada. With it legal here maybe researchers can finally get to all the other unknown beneficial effects it has.

  • How many thousands of years have our ancestors used nature as the source of all remedies and cures?? Now how many years has big pharmaceutical dissected, manipulated and then monopolized on nature?? Should all of humanity suffer or be caged for ingesting an oil, seed, root, leaf or flower that has been used for thousands of years? They spray and alter our crop’s with ROUNDUP?? They alter the genetic makeup of our foods!! Poisoning our air, food, sea and yes me!!!
Big Lobbies and even Bigger Profit!!! Do I this Natural Living Man have a right to use all of Nature?? Has anyone noticed the almost complete suppression of natural cures and remedies?? Big Profit for Big Pharmaceutical and even Bigger Jails!!

  • I smoke kush everyday almost man and when he said that heavy users maybe have the thc for months, I’m not thinking me it’s more like years lmfao

  • I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease nearly 4 years ago, at age 51. I had a stooped posture, tremors, muscle stiffness, sleeplessness, and slow movement. I was placed on Sinemet for 7 months and then Sifrol and rotigotine were introduced which replaced the Sinemet but I had to stop due to side effects. I was in denial for a while as there is no history of PD in my family. I also used amantadine, and physical therapy to strengthen muscles all failed. I decided to adopt a more natural approach and started on Parkinson’s Herbal formula from Organic Herbal Clinic, the Parkinson’s natural formula immensely helped my condition, i had a total recovery from PD with this natural herbal formula treatment. Organic Herbal Clinic official web site www. organicherbalclinic. com. I feel alive again!!

  • Fact… Cannabis is one of the most harmless drugs or medications when compared to every prescription drug on the market… And of course including every illegal drugs and legal, like alcohol and cigarettes

  • hahaha. Just ask any shady dude in a park/party/centre where to buy it from, and say you’ll pay double the initial price if needed, for the info. THC is everywhere unfortunatly, you can even walk up to someone and ask kindly can you have a 1 hit with him. Possibly no issue what so ever… or just ask him to blow in your face, same thing. Brain tumour cured… now remember not all cancers can be cured this way, in fact most of them won’t be cured. I don’t recommend smoking it, i recommend drinking oil made out of it, or just doing some cooking and baking. I’ve never seen anyone smoke parsley so don’t be that idiot thinking inhaling smoke from any fire or plant is good for your lungs, it isn’t.
Additionaly, any long term intense drug use before finishing puberty will cause mostly brain developement issues, and possibly lowering IQ level, and in case of THC also short term memory problems. I would if i could legalise this drug world wide for it’s wide range uses, but would set the barrier to over 21 years old for anyone to purchse as this is when puberty for men finishes usually.

  • Action potential and neurotransmitters usually only operate one way, whereas THC runs the opposite way of this tradition, activating from the postsynaptic neuron and transmitting to the presynaptic neuron.

  • She gives really good information in her talk. I have been using the CBD edibles w/o THC for about 9 mos now. It really helps with the joint, muscle and GI issues I deal w/. This is not addictive like the narcs and opioids, and the other side effects from using these two, CBD doesn’t have. So I will be using CBD as long as I need to.

  • Why do people need to screw with their natural neural synapses? I get a great natural high after a 30 45 min vinyasa yoga session and I get a great fit body out of it! So no thanks dubious mind screw substances. I choose smart clear sobriety for my life!

  • I have been smoking weed for forty-eight years. Only in the last couple of years have I sampled edibles. I have COPD now, due to long term cigarette smoking. The edibles gave me a different sort of high. Hard to explain how it feels, but I liked it. I live in Pennsylvania. It’s hard to get edibles unless someone I know makes them in their kitchen. And, the Rice Krispie treats are…OK. But they don’t make them all the time. My sixty-two-year-old sister, who has never used weed in her life, was diagnosed with bladder cancer about six years ago. But she only recently shared with me (well, it was actually her boyfriend, Jim) that she’s been eating brownies, made by her boyfriend’s older brother (Bill), who would be older than me. Bill has owned and still owns a small health food store. He’s the only employee. Jim told me that Bill had gone to Colorado a few times to go to CBD seminars, demonstrations, etc. He learned stuff from experts. And he makes “the real deal” top-notch brownies. I have tried the Colorado CBD oil that he sells. Top-quality and very expensive. It gave me the most relaxing body “high” I have ever felt. I just felt relaxed. My anxiety, which I take benzos for, left me. My whole body just slowed down and “chilled.” All my aches and pains left me. Jim told me that Bill has been making my sis THC brownies for a while and that he uses the best strains of weed. The, $400 an ounce, fireweed! (Don’t ask me HOW he gets it in from Colorado because I don’t know and that’s his business.) I’m pissed, haha! (That sis never told me about her little secret. She knows I smoke. She’s mean, lol.) Bill has met me many times, but we never “clicked” that much, and he’s a bit standoffish. He seems to be “wary” of me because he doesn’t know me. Maybe he thinks I’m a CI or something, I don’t know. And I’m thinking, I’ve been buying “fire” weed at $50 an eight anyway, many times a month. I can’t afford ounces anymore, as I used to, and I HAVE usually paid $300-$350 an ounce or more for, anyway. I really can’t afford to plunk down $400 bucks anymore. That’s why I don’t buy ounces. But man, I’ve been feeling like shit lately, health-wise. And I want to stop the damn benzos! I hate pharmaceuticals because they are more dangerous than street drugs. I’ve been pondering this for a while, and I think that if I visit him at his store and just lay four $100 bills down in front of him and say “help me, Bill,” he will be Gob-smacked. And I could be eating brownies if I’m lucky!:) I’m going for it! On disability check day, haha. (The 3rd of Jan 2020). Wish me luck!

  • Rick Simpson says that cannabis IS a panacea or a cure all, and I trust his experience more than an old school traditional american doctor, no offence.

  • This guy is a ignorant moron, can’t bring his own head out of bias long enough without projecting his own opinions into science at every turn.

  • Lmfao yea white people discovered it in the 60s just like everything else. The entire world looks at white people like we’re dumbasses every time we say we discovered something everyone already knew about

  • Is it bad for you? It’s like any other addiction. It’s great at first, then eventually replaces your natural coping methods, leaving you crippled to deal with life’s challenges without your drug.

  • Ken Ford suggests ketones (BHB) may be a metabolite of THC, and possibly of CBD (as the latter is commonly used for seizure management) S1043-2760(13)00156-2. Ketones are said to facilitate the expression of genes inside a cell by INHIBITING (Histone *De*ACetylaseS) i.e. how tight the dna is wrapped around a histone (LESS acetylate / more methylation = less gene expression ; MORE ACETYLATE / less methylation = more gene expression ). It reminds me of CRISPR, and how even if you could cut and splice whole chromosomes, which they’ve now done, and/or even able to insert kilobases worth of genetic code.. the genes still have to be expressed in order for it to work, so unless that can be done, I don’t get the excitement over CRISPR!

BTW, any thoughts on Blue Cannatine (Methylene Blue, Caffeine, HempcaNNA, Nicotine)? Nicotine seems to be protective against Parkinson’s.

  • The people I’ve smoked with, for the most part, have gotten “high” in less than a minute with the cannabis we smoke. And we all are “veterans” when it comes to smoking… so that is not really true

  • God bless you. I saw Charlotte before. Her suffering, and her relief after. Then I remember them treating many more children with the same success. By the way, 64000 people died in the United States from so called pain killers in 2016 alone.

  • I think we really need to understand cognitive science before we focus in on how THC disrupts cognition. Right now the current rhetoric is “It disrupts X and that’s not normal”
I think we’re too focused on how THC disrupts the transmission of the physical synapse, not what that disruption causes in the human neural network that is the brain. This is probably is best through models, possibly even simulations of neurons with these funny synapses and observing how those changes affect the cognition of Artificial Neural Networks.

    This video is moot.

  • You are what missing In the field. And yet it makes me sick this world try’s to penalize you or take your license for health. Wow I’m so inspired I’ve started using again and I’m sleeping so much better and breathing amazingly. I was having problems sleeping and had a stroke that had left me with bathroom problems and back pain. It’s been two weeks and I feel great I wish the rest of this world would stop the irony and foolishness. I don’t puff like a chimney I have a small amount like the size of market cap half a year spoon cbd works

  • Lmfao, is this supposed to be a useful video? Were you high while making it?

Joking I learn everything from everybody. I’m sure I’ll think of something later. Just agitated because of your title. I think the point of me watching this is a hint for me to make a video that describes the process in detail with situational specific context so that it’s useful instead of just a talking head throwing keywords around tryna sound smart.

Not even being mean either, this is like describing how a motor runs and saying the piston move up and down, up, and down. The control module orchestrates the dance of the pistons by receiving inputs that monitor the fuel and oxygen ratios and sending fire fly like sparks that ignite compressed air which in turn generates enough heat to pressurize the cylinders enabling the pistonys to dance in a balanced harmony. This harmony in turn makes rods move, gears spin and magic happens because we got all that spinning and with all that spinning the tires go round and round. Now we pour some thc and cbd into the fuel tank and we get more sparkies but less harmony. However, we din’t stop there so we put some of that magick into the oil too, so now our oil is enhanced by the magic of THC and CBD, it’s viscosity increases but so does it’s flow so now all of our spinny things won’t overheat as we go faster we less harmony. We replaced the motors firefly sparks AND we chilled it out at the same time. So ya we know how thc enhances the motor because it alters the sparks and chills it out. So it can fire in new ways without stressing about the potential consequences.

That’s how teh motor works on THC and CBD brah. That’s basically how indepth this video goes.

I DON’T THINK YOU ARE A HERO as Plenty have fought LONG & HARD for this to be available.
As IT IS ALL POLITICS. That’s all

  • Is it just THC or is there also a healthy dose of CBD involved I’m not talking about the trace elements normally found in marijuana I’m talking added

  • And exactly why did our Creator provide us all with and ECS (Endocannabinoid System)? Thank you for your courage, Dr. Shackelford! May God continue to bless Charlotte!

  • Thanks, JoAnna!  I know you had to cover your own ass. If you ever make it up to Toronto drop me a message here or on the foundations’ page. I got your smoke covered.

  • This is straight up wrong. What THC does is act post-synaptically to dampen calcium intake pre-synaptically. Since calcium influx is what leads to transmitter release you get less released at terminals with CBD receptors after a blunt. THC doesn’t replace neurotransmitters, does this guy think agonism is the same as replacement or was it a cop out to avoid explaining the mechanism of action? Do people actually take this guy seriously? Like everything in this video is dumbed down to the point that critical info is missing. When he says that dopamine is increased after smoking he doesn’t say that chronic usage dampens the dopamine system overall.

Edit: also it’s a misconception that dopamine makes you happy, it’s more responsible for reward seeking behavior. Like can you really call a gambling addict spending his days at the slot machine only leaving to shit and eat happy? Also saying every drug works through DA is straight up retarded. The more I rewatch this video the more garbage I find

  • Poor choice of wording in the title ; “replaces” gives the impression of making destructive changes. It merely mimics endocannabinoids and creates a temporary effect. It does not damage brain cells or neurotransmitters.

  • “While cannabis and CBD are an emerging field of study, their associated health effects remain inconclusive and unsupported by current scientific evidence. ” TEDx

Never truer words written. People claiming it cures and treats anything and everything is not evidence.

  • funny how we are programmed to the point if we like something, ANYTHING ANYBODY says about it is a conspiracy, they are wrong, don’t know what they are talking about. i smoked weed for decades, loved the high but i am at a point in my life that i just CHOSE to stop. no rehab, addiction nothing. just chose to quit. now, i see the effects. i can dream again, very vivid dreams. my thoughts are clearer. i no longer have to wonder if this is a “weed idea” or a real one from me. sometimes my thinking is so clear and intense i feel like i have been smoking. weed is way more toxic that it was in berkeley back in the day. i always say if the government is into it, legalizing it, SOMETHING is wrong! unless one grows it or KNOWS who did. i would NOT trust it. NOTHING lasts forever, we have to learn to think for ourselves and know when the party is over…

  • Yes do drugs that came from under developed/third world parts of world, after thousands of years these drugs changed the dna of the people lowering there IQ & ambition to advance,,,, now it’s your turn america, bow down & be enslaved

  • PaulThese lectures are uniformly excellent content. I’m going to send students to some of them as a supplement to my own if you don’t mind. Sometimes just hearing it from someone else or in a different voice makes a big difference. The sound on this one does have some holes but not dramatically enough to impair understanding. Nice job!

  • my personal perspective and opinion.. who was the idiot to ban a thousands of years old plant lmao the plant probably thinks humans should be banned lol

  • Growing HEMP will restore the ‘soil’, will restore the ‘atmosphere’.
    Will create BIO-DEGRADABLE plastics.
This is the only way I can get this message out; HEMP plastics is the future for earth.
I wrecked my Harley not wearing my helmet that stopped my heart 3 times, put me into an 87 day coma waking with a 5.5 brain injury requiring relearning life. Once returning home I tried having my doctor do an MRI of my brain to compare to my wreck. He refused telling me that BIG PHARMA will financially destroy any doctor that proves THC restores brain injuries.
This upset me so much that I taught myself MOLECULAR SCIENCE and went to the gold shop in KALISPELL MONTANA showing JB how copper transitioned into gold. This got me kicked out and he told ‘city council’ that I am making FOOLS GOLD from copper pass tests
Boiling water proves that ‘heat’ excites MOLECULES allowing ATOMS to escape.
This is how copper transitions into GOLD and nickel into PLATINUM.
Earth must be restored by growing HEMP world wide.

  • This is by far the most informative while succinct video I’ve ever seen in regards to the pharmacology of cannabis. Thank you so much for taking the time to do quality research whilst simultaneously making it entertaining! This video is criminally overlooked.

    Edit: grammar

  • Good public talk that Alan is giving here, but this is nothing new for Canadian physicians who not only have been doing the research but have been using it in indications he is suggesting, for quite some time now. Theres a drug in Canada thats a 1:1 ratio of CBD and THC, (in sublingual form) made by Bayer, which does exactly what he is describing, it reduces seizure threshold and has been in use since 2007. Nothing of what he is talking about is new, perhaps it was just a new experience for him. Americans really need to start understanding the medical purpose for Cannabinoids, this guy his doing a talk in 2017 like its something new, however, research is moving quickly and more indications are being discovered all the time. Its too bad that it is illegal federally in the US. This is the problem which stifles research.

  • Medical marijuana is a serious threat to the OTC and prescription drug markets. They are very politically powerful in These Great United States.

  • Smoked for 36 years, still do with prescription now. Now at 90% CBD to thc and becoming awake again.

Still believe what a clinical psychologist told me a few years ago.
Weed is the absolute worst drug there is.
Alcohol, meth, heroin, cocaine at least have the decency to kill you after they ruined your life.

Russia used vodka, even paid the workers in vodka….(still today their convenience stores and grocery stores are more than half liquor over food and other products). Castro used rum and marijuana. Chavez used marijuana and beetlenut.
That’s why they have fought to legalize marijuana now as “medical marijuana”… starting with the Clintons… they are a bunch of potheads.

  • I think all the science terms has yall thinking this guy is trashing weed and what it does to you, really hes just explaining the process of what does what and how that gets you high. Enjoy your smoke session friends, I know I will!
