Genetic screenings of more than 50,000 people found that more than 80 percent of those who carry a known gene variant for breast, ovarian, prostate or pancreatic cancer were unaware of their risk. Researchers noted that most people carrying cancer -associated variants in the BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes only realize they’re at increased risk for cancer when a friend’s or relative’s diagnosis prompts them to. Most People Don’t Know if They Have Genetic Risk for Cancer. WEDNESDAY, Sept. 26, 2018 Most people carrying genes that put them at risk for cancer don’t realize it, new research suggests.

No genetic test can say if you will develop cancer for sure. But it can tell you if you have a higher risk than most people. Only some people with a gene mutation will develop cancer.

What does this mean?(See the Hereditary Cancer Syndromes section for more information about inherited genetic mutations that can cause cancer.) Most cancer risk (and protective) factors are initially identified in epidemiology studies. In these studies, scientists look at large groups of people and compare those who develop cancer with those who don’t.

Even though you may be a genetic reciprient for cancer, there is a highly successful way of dealing with it. Your DNA is wrapped up in a package called the Genome. Beyond the Genome is called Epigenetics!

Lunasin is the first natural dietary ingredient to have a direct epigenetic.

That is, if people learn that cancer develops because of genetic, behavioral, and environmental factors, they might think that getting cancer is nearly inevitable and avoid making lifestyle changes that could reduce their risk for cancer.

Therefore, especially for cancer patients with family history of disease, genetic tests help reveal important information about the prognosis, the risk of metastasis, and sometimes even the possible success of the treatment.
