Why Diet Soda Makes You Fat With Thomas DeLauer

Video taken from the channel: SixPackAbs.com

In 2014, a study reported that overweight and obese people who drank diet sodas ate between 90 and 200 more calories of food per day than those who drank regular sodas. Researchers do not know exactly why diet sodas may increase the risk of disease. Some believe that diet sodas might damage blood vessels or cause chronic inflammation. Diet soda is essentially a mixture of carbonated water, artificial or natural sweetener, colors, flavors, and other food additives.

It usually has very few to no calories and no significant. But as I learned previously while analyzing all the ingredients in Diet Coke, the artificial sweeteners in diet sodas (specifically aspartame) will still fuck you up pretty bad: “Even though Diet Coke might not have the calories that a regular Coke does, artificial sweeteners still affect our hormones like insulin in ways that can make us hungrier and reduce the amount of fat we burn. Drinking a reasonable amount of diet soda a day, such as a can or two, isn’t likely to hurt you. The artificial sweeteners and other chemicals currently used in diet soda are safe for most people, and there’s no credible evidence that these ingredients cause cancer.

Some types of diet soda are even fortified with. According to several different studies, even though diet drinks supposedly consist of zero net calories, they can have a lot of negative effects — including weight gain, kidney problems, increased risk of diabetes and increased risk of depression. So if you love diet soda but want to cut your risk of.

Diet soda is not a healthier alternative to regular sugar-sweetened soda. Diet soda does not promote weight loss, contrary to popular belief. Diet soda is linked to higher risk for mortality in some studies, metabolic damage, heart disease, weight gain and other health problems. Pass it on: Diet soda has fewer calories and sugar than regular soda, and some experts say its fine in moderation.

Others point out that diet soda can increase the risk of stroke and metabolic. Diet Mountain Dew may well be the riskiest diet soda because it has the greatest number of questionable additives. Not only does it contain aspartame, ace-K, and sucralose, but it also has more.

Diet soda is calorie-free, but it won’t necessarily help you lose weight. Researchers from the University of Texas found that over the course of about a decade, diet soda drinkers had a 70% greater.

List of related literature:

Finally, diet sodas often use the worst zero-calorie sweeteners, like aspartame, which is associated with adverse health outcomes, such as headaches and osteoporosis (weak bones).

  • Many years ago nutrasweet had a red label (although very small) that said that this product when given to rats produced cancer, then they switched it to “Suitable for diabetics”. You’ve got to be stupid to consume this shit.

  • The whole point about people gaining weight with diet soda is because they are all OBESE and fat in the first place who think that by drinking a diet drink and still eating junk that will make them lose weight.

  • Several scientists? I just spent all night searching and I couldn’t find any research studies linking aspartame to health risks. If you find any actual studies please send them to me.

  • I stopped drinking soda because of sugars after four months I’ve lost 40 pounds I was feeling great and figured I would have a Pepsi max because I wanted to treat myself to a soda without the sugar well after having three of those cans over a three day period,, I started having extremely bad heart palpitations and ended up in the hospital! They got my history and told me it was the aspartame

  • Did they take into account life factors? Thats always the question. I hear diet soda is bad from health nuts but idk atm. Prob ok for weight loss but health and weight can be separate things when u have ur weight at a healthy range.

  • The food and beverage industry needs to be regulated, big business food in America with their processed food is killing Americans.!

  • Well That’s Scary About Getting Diabetes. I’m On A Water Fast. Day 11 And I Decided To Drink A Diet Soda Becasue It Has 0 Calories And Small Amount Of Sodium. Boy Did I Come Alive And Motivated. I Thought The Label Was Misleading And the Soda Had Calories But It’s The Fake Sugar That Triggered Insulin. I Will Say I Went From Laying In Bed Feeling Extremely Tired All Day To Getting Up And Doing All Kinds Of Work Around The House. Truly Insane How Much Energy And How Much Better I Felt After Drinking S Diet Soda… But The Insulin Resistance Developed Over Time Has Me Terrified. I Never Drink Soda I’ve Always Been Drinking Water And Eating Salads 247. I’ve Lost 75Lbs In 4 Months And Can Keep The Weight Off.

  • diet soda also stimulates your bladder muscles more frequently so you have to go more often even when your bladder is only slightly filled. I have been drinking diet soda for years and have started to notice that i go to the bathroom very often and that i get this feeling to go shortly after i alreaady went. well, im giving up the stuff and just drinking green tea, unsweetened. I read it takes 2 weeks to see a difference, hopefully so because its very annoying to have to go pee so often….

  • Whey protein also has artificial sweeteners and you still drink it. Explain how I drink diet coke every single day and I’m still ripped and shredded, explain it, come on 😉

  • I can’t believe people are still thinking Diet Coke is okay I’ve never touched a diet coke maybe had one in my life it’s for the same reason that I use butter and not margarine and I’ve never eaten any diet foods because it’s ridiculous. Ever notice how fat everybody is that drinks Diet Coke? I’m a chef and I’ve always had the same motto eat everything that’s wrapped by Nature and unadulterated. Use moderation and you’ll be okay.
Stand up sort of grocery store for a couple of days and just watch people and you’ll realize what the problem is.

  • Ok being lean and healthy are very important. But the fact is:: this guy and others like him need to get a hobby other than devoting their lives to looking like that. Super lame!! Is this your way of getting women? Are you that insecure that you need to have more muscles than everyone else in the room? What is it?

  • I love the fact that Pepsi Max is my favorite, then i won’t have to feel so bad all the time. I don’t really drink anything else ecxept for water and milk

  • Diet soda is acid forming, youtube search ‘diet soda makes you fat’. You should not drink milk. It has way too much protein and may cause osteoporosis. We already have way too much protein in our diets.

  • Joe believes the NY Times about 12 diet cokes and 8 hours of TV day. LOL Probiotics can provide benefits, if taken regularly and in correct dose

  • ive noticed when i have a diet soda my tricep fat and some other places like to come out but when im eating healthy none of that happens

  • Here is the “obesity link”…
Diet Soda: I have 0 calories.
Morons: Wow! Now I can eat 5 candy bars a day with no impact to my health! Thanks, diet soda!

  • Hi Mr. Thomas I drink a bit of french vanilla coffe-mate daily on my morning coffe and I started working out, can the french vanilla coffe mate affect my results? should I drink my coffe black? please advice

  • Sugar and sweeteners change the microbiome regardless what brand. It’s why people with IBDs, IBS, all can’t have a lot of sugar, even some fruit juices.

  • We very seldom drink a whole can of soda with a meal, so we both
stopped drinking soda from 12 oz (355 ML) cans and now drink
16.9 oz (500 ml) bottles of soda so we can put the twist caps back on,
and put half back in the fridge, so we can finish the soda the next day.
Most people feel obligated to finish a can, once the pop tab is opened.
Reusing the twist caps keeps a bottle of soda from going “flat”.
I tend to drink more instant coffee (with milk & no sugar)
and fruit juice to further reduce my consumption of sugar.

  • None, just because it says no sugar doesn’t mean squat. It’s not sucrose that makes us fat but it is fructose. All artificial sweeteners have fructose. In fact anything that taste sweet is because of the dangerous fructose our liver can’t process fully. Have you ever seen a skinny person drinking diet coke. No, these artificial sweeteners also make you crave carbs like cake, biscuits, croissants etc. If you really want to be pure health, you have to quit anything sweet and develop a savoury diet. Plus, we should only ever drink water. If we humans were kept in a zoo and our lives prolonged for revenue I guarantee our keepers would not give us nothing but water. Even coffee and tea are serious. Have you ever stopped to think should I be drinking another species milk. No other animal does. Plus no other animal cooks it’s food and ruins good bacteria by warming the food. Humans have got it so wrong about nutrition and what we should and shouldn’t eat. Watch THAT SUGAR MOVIE. On Netflix. I was once 150 kilos. Now I’m 76 kilos 3 years after quitting sugar ( alcohol sucks, but it’s the deadliest sugar that has fermented and needs to never be consumed again.) I didn’t do much exercise except a treadmill in the beginning to get me motivated. ps throw the scales out.Good luck to anyone who watches Damon’s THAT SUGAR MOVIE. It changed my life through understanding food better. Also you need to watch. Food Matters and it’s follow up hungry for change. Do it, you will experience shit for about a month but after that you will feel so good. Sex drive flourishes, motivation comes back and the bonus is, that when you do taste sugar it is so fucked gross. Sorry about language but black Ceylon tea is a great way to quit. Try not adding a teaspoon of sugar but extra milk for lactose sweetening. But remember, sweet tasting is temptation towards death. I’m here if you have any questions. Let’s together make people aware of the dangers

  • +Thomas DeLauer You got some points, but I disagree on several of them. Why? Becauause my weight one year ago was 220 pounds, and a BF of 16%, I started my diet, BUT drank pepsi max each single day, for a year, give or take a couple of days, with a cheatday every friday. And in one year, I went down to 182 pounds, and a BF of 6%
I did this while drinking diet soda each day, and a cheatday every friday. And if what you’re saying here is true, (and I understood it correctly) then this should be close to impossible.

For the record, I only consumed my diet soda with food, I never drank it to quench the thirst.

    Hope for your reply.

    Best regards.

  • I know I’ve always been skinny. Dated a chick who would only allow diet in the house. Got fat. Lost all the weight when I started back to regular. Couldn’t keep though. Was too syrupy or something. Went back to diet and got fat again. Gotta love the doctors in advertising….

  • Oh yeah, microbiomes are what makes you lose weight. Sure… Not exercise or eating better, just the microbiome. Lots of “like” and “probablys” on this bro science talk.

  • “The risk was highest at those who were obese” no shit Sherlock, just because fat person that eats for lunch 5 whole pizzas also drink diet coke, does not mean his health problems are caused by diet coke omg…

  • If I were you I’d skip sugar and aspartame to be sure. No diet coke and other artificial trash food.
Studies are obsoleted and reversed every other month in the field of nutrition. Unless there’s overwhelming evidence like alcohol damaging your brain it doesn’t matter much.
Also the sugar has to be counted vs your total carbs. Meaning bread, rice and potatoes are effectively also sugar when broken down.
Not only is it counting towards your daily energy total but inhibits stored fat burning for hours by releasing insulin.

  • The clue is in the name. People who go on a diet are usually people who need to go on a diet. Obesity increases the risk of heart attack and stroke.

  • Hey man, I am going to quit diet soda after watching this video. I have reason to believe that you have changed my life with this video.

  • Average age 69 years old! The majority of people drinking diet soda already have problems from being obese. This is BS! Why does your body need milk? This Doctor is a FAIL.

  • I agree that claims should be backed by scientific evidence; but I don’t have time to read long scientific journals all day. Thanks for the post!

  • my guess is that soda diet or otherwise is not good for you, but this video is bull shit if you think that cutting out soda is going to be all that you need to do in your diet to remove fat and not cause you to have a lot of other health issues. listening to ANYTHING on youtube and buying into it without further research can be dangerous!

one more thing, have not had soda in years and ZERO reduction in fat on my body. therefore, living proof that you video is bull shit. Belly Fat is not just from soda.

  • Diet soda itself does not cause weight gain. However there are two things about it. All types of soft drinks, flavored water, and sports drinks are high in Sodium. Too much sodium can cause heart problems, bad triglycerides, and water weight retention. Water weight makes you look all puffy and it can cover your muscles and look very embarrassing. Diet drinks can also make you want to eat more ultimately leading to weight gain. In order to lose fat and water weight, you’ve gotta drink lots of water, get enough potassium, and cut down on all types of carbs/sugars and sodium/salt. Sodium and glucose are responsible for holding onto water. Drinking lots of water can actually help you lose water weight because it flushes out sodium. Don’t go over 80 fl oz in a day though.

  • Joe rogan.. Butt Diet coke taste Soo good!! Umm have you ever tryd regular coke!, sure it has “suger” in it butt if you gonna get fat drinking soda you might as well drink the better tasting one! Just saying..

  • I’m sorry this lady really needs to lower her Adderall/methamphetamine intake….WOW her speech can’t keep up with her thoughts….

  • Diet soda gives me an option when I go out to board game nights at a local restaurant with my board game group. It allows me to continue my overall calorie reduction and weight loss. But 95% of what I drink is water. I occasionally treat myself to 1% milk or a gatorade if I have the calories and have been good.

  • I stopped drinking all soda 2 months ago. I have no plans to ever start again, just hope I succeed, but the longer you don’t have any, the better chance I never touch it again. It will make us all fat and unhealthy, both regular and diet.

  • In an effort to revive consumer interest in its flagging Diet Coke product line, Coca-Cola launched four new “exotic” flavors in January 2018,1 in slimmer, redesigned cans.

After reportedly testing more than 30 flavor combinations and talking with 10,000 people over a two-year period, Coke introduced Feisty Cherry, Ginger Lime, Twisted Mango and Zesty Blood Orange, which took their place alongside original Diet Coke, its formula unchanged. Given the can design, flavors and marketing, it is clear millennials are the intended target for the new beverages.
    NOTE:
This is how Coke reacts when its sales start lacking:
“OK, we’ll just make it TASTE BETTER…! To hell with making it healthier!”

  • Everybody needs to go to courthouse and place a lawsuit against Rumsfeld, the Republican party, Coke Pepsi mcdonalds for selling defective product.

  • This is all bullshit people! The studies are flawed! The reporter said that women who drink 2 or more diet sodas a day are 31% more likely to have a stroke…I’d say 1% of women drink 2 or more than diet soda in a day. Let me guess that demographic…all obese. Strokes are commonly caused from obesity, so the diet soda itself isn’t causing strokes it’s all the other shit they eat!! You can’t get fat from diet soda…that’s a fact. The only way to gain weight is by consuming calories…well diet soda has none so someone please explain to me how you can get fat drinking it. And don’t say because it causing you too eat more…well then it the food you eat not the diet soda…learn to control yourself then!

  • Why don’t you link to the actual scientific reports. I’d like to see for myself because this goes contrary to my experience and research I have read myself that says that there has been no negative symptoms associated with aspartame. I’m drinking about 8 cans of diet soda a day and I have no problem losing weight and it helps me kill hunger.

  • Many thanks, I’ve been looking for “bulking up tips muscle” for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of Senictoria Bulking Paradise (do a search on google )? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my neighbour got excellent success with it.

  • The studies I’ve heard of, where they say that diet coke makes you put on weight, doesn’t account for what those people are eating. Which makes those tests rediculous…

  • The people drink diet coke because they think it’s healthier is just mostly false. I’m overweight, in not crazy into soda, but I don’t like regular coke or Pepsi I only like diet. Many people have stated the same

  • It’s not just Diet Coke what makes me angry is that companies like Gatorade make a product and they call it zero sugar. It has the same chemicals as Diet Coke it has the aspartame and all that in there and people are drinking this stuff thinking it’s sugar free. I would never be fooled by that but if you’re somebody who would be don’t drink anything that says zero sugar or Coke Zero or diet soda they’re all the same. If it says it has no sugar but the product is sweet if most likely has these chemicals in it.

  • I agree in that regard that I want to highly reduce my diet coke intake but more because it is just a chemical concoction that cannot be healthy. But the mentioned arguments are way too vague and contradict other people’s real life experiments like measuring your blood sugar after drinking diet coke and such.
