You may need corrective lenses or glasses to sharpen your vision. Many people in their 40s find they need bifocals for reading and distance vision. And, your sense of smell may be less keen in your mid-40s. It’s always a good idea to ask your health care professional about any physical or emotional changes you may be experiencing.

I do miss being pretty & thin, though!! 😉 At least my child LOVES the large pillow he gave me for a stomach!!!!:D When I said I wanted to lose weight he asked, quite genuinely concerned, ”But where will my big pillow go?!!”

  • Good advice. BTW I just turned nifty fifty. Most resonated when you talked about checking out who your friends are. As you say, it may not be easy but when you know……………..YOU KNOW who to gently let go of. Problem is, THEY also realise you’ve seen the light. If you are lucky they’ll acknowledge, but if not, then pestering may occur (narc much?) but just stick to your plans and they’ll soon back off. Very liberating to realise you are your own best friend in the end.

But….whats the point about obsessing? You are right life is supposed to be more than that. I have spent tons of money trying to reverse it and nothing happened. So…I will accept the things I can’t change, but just try to be positive and improve it. That is the best we can do.   • Turning 40 was absolute hell for me!
    I feel like I got by on my looks for the majority of my life so turning 40 made me feel so lost. Also because I’m no where near where I’d thought/hoped to be in life.
    I don’t have kids & gaining weight has always been an issue. My body really does look the same as it did in my teens,twenties & thirties but it’s the changes in my face that make me crazy. I know alot of 20/30 yr olds that tell me they don’t think of me as “that old”�� but I know I am & it scares the hell out of me! They can’t understand that no matter how “good” you look for your age the world just puts women in a different category after 40.
    I’ve never pictured myself getting older (seriously for some reason I always thought I’d die young, why I don’t know) I’ll be 43 soon & even writing that number blows my mind! I don’t know where the past 20 years went!

  • I have a sedentary job/career. I walk every other day, hike on the weekends, do 100 pushups every other day and just started squats. By no means perfect but it works for me.

  • Poor poor women! They change every year and the change massively every decade. Men never change or if they do, they don’t realize it.     What do you tell people who want to try DHEA?

  • I’m 46, former pro soccer player in the early 90s, also played in college here in NYC. These days I suffer from a multitude of nagging injuries, with spinal stinosis leaading the way. A lot of this is the result of training very hard for many years until my mid 30s. Long story/short….stop running on concrete/tracks…stick to riding a bike in a gym. Same result. Will lessen the strain on the spine. Don’t lift to get big, lift to be lean. And, just eat with some sense. Really that simple guys.

She said the other day I won’t get married now as I’m too old also too old to have anymore children…also said in the next few years i will have to cut my hair as older woman can’t have long hair. There’s so many women in the YT comments saying well I’m whatever age and still look and feel fabulous. That’s amazing but there are quite a few of us that seem to be suffering with a shed load of deficiencies according to blood tests which explain why so many of us feel so rough and maybe look it �� I know I do at times and it’s hard to know whether I’m just giving in to being older or I genuinely feel unwell at times. I know I have zero tolerance now for uncomfortable clothes but then feel guilty that I’m getting frumpy. I think I’m just rambling ��

  • Thank you Anthony for this advice. My only caution to your audience is to be very careful in supplementing with DHEA. I took 25 mg. twice daily of this hormone for four months straight and noticed my hair starting to thin. Apparently, DHEA can be converted to DHT which is a catalyst for hair loss. Supplement with caution!

  • If people eat a carnivore diet or don’t eat more than 20 carbs per day they don’t really age that much and still can maintain a high level of athletic performance.

  • I agree with most of your tips BUT the scientific consensus on supplements is that most of them are just going to make your urine more expensive. The best advice is to eat nutritionally rich food that contains these nutrients/supplements, i.e. eat fish instead of taking fish oil, etc. On the other hand, I take Vit D and magnesium even though I have no evidebce that I am deficient. Curcumin and probiotics are examples of supplements which have better results in lab tests than they do in human bodies.

  • Getting old sucks. No way around it though. Gotta stay active, eat clean, sleep well, and attack and conquer things that stress you out (bills). Eliminate all the garbage and unnecessary shit. I walk almost everyday, ride my bike, hit the pool, gym, sauna, hot tub, stretch/yoga. Got to be about that active life or your gonna be a fat, sick, weak, creature in pain that no one wants to fuck. Healthy older dudes get girls crazy.

    My friend is 40 and he has a 24 year old girlfriend. They are about to take a trip to Europe in which they will plan to do a lot of hiking.

    He stays in shape and works out all the time. But he is worried he won’t be able to keep up with her. He is worried he wont be able to hike 5 days in a row because of his age. Or if he does, he fears he won’t be able to go out at night with her and see the sights.

    Is there some workaround for that? For example, if he skips his usual workout routine for that week, will that conserve the energy in him to hike daily and still have energy to see the sights with his girl at night? Let me know
