  • I used naturacare brand products for years as well…such a great brand. I have not used any perfumed products for so many years ( for anything) that I have become very sensitive to perfume smells. Now I find it so disturbing that I can tell when my friends have their period because I can smell the perfume from the pads they are using. Organic Basics is a good brand for breathable organic cotton underwear. Or a US brand that has good organic cotton underwear and is affordable is the brand PACT.

  • I have been using natracare because I wanted to switch to a more natural pad but for women who have a heavier flow or endo/adenomyosis these pads don’t support that and that’s why other toxic brands are still being used. Natracare is more expensive in the U.K. the natracare pads break up when too wet they disintergrate, they don’t ever stay in place and start to fold in. I wanted to contact them about this because I don’t want to use Always but these more toxic brands are better for women with heavier flows.

  • Not sure about increasing yoghurt intake. I have definitely noticed less hormone-based physical and mental issues after decreasing my cow dairy intake. If I could recommend ANYTHING to other women from my own experience, it’s to just try limiting it for a couple of months and see what difference it makes for your body and mind. I use the Diva cup + washable organic cotton pads but sometimes (like when I am on the road) it is delicate to wash the pads and find a hidden place to dry theme so the non-reusable organic pads you talk about might be a great alternative for me when I travel.   • I thought calorie counting was annoying and for people obsessed with weight loss. But she’s right, it’s important. So, this is what helped me with figuring this out:
    1) First determine how many calories based on your age, weight and height you should be intaking for weight maintenance and weight loss. Use https://www.calculator.net/calorie-calculator.html they have great info on the science behind it.
    2) Use MyFitnessPal App to help you keep track of your calorie count per meal per day. It’s free and it takes some getting used to, but it helps with your initial weeks of learning how to eat the right portions and foods to meet your daily calorie intake goal.

    Remember that PATIENCE is very important in a weight loss journey! Consider doing a mini cut cycle where you do two weeks of eating the calories required for weight loss and two weeks of eating the calories needed to maintain your current weight. Your body and metabolism will appreciate it!

Some (including myself) have vulvodynia, endometriosis, pelvic floor dysfunction etc. Menstruation, sex and other stuff are extremely painful and I don’t want anything down there. Legitimating anxieties by molding your behavior (for the sake of “health” or even well-being) merely reinforces the deep-down, base feeling of dissatisfaction with the self. The need to control the unideal. The better questions to ask: why am I dissatisfied with how I am now? Is this dissatisfaction necessary? Who told me this current state of mine was insufficient? Why is my happiness still tied to a future state? Why is a certain identity more ideal than who I am now?

    I would highly recommend cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for negative, recurrent thoughts even if they seem to propel you towards “health,” as in this video and channel. CBT is a practice of identifying dissatisfaction and negativity in the *now*, stopping it in its tracks, and redirecting it with gratitude, presence, and thoughtful third-person analysis. Drinking water, exercising, setting a regular sleep schedule these are all great and NECESSARY for our overall wellness. Do them! Really! But don’t do them because you want to be a “healthy girl”… “someday”… in your life. That mindset is tied to the future, and ultimately is just a different form of reserving happiness for a certain type of self, just like in Alivia’s previous diaries about reserving happiness for when she’s skinny.

    Healthy habits can reset your physiological, neurological baseline to better receive positivity. But after the reset, keep going. Dig deeper. Habit change is surface-level, often merely band-aids. What compels us to change at all is below the surface.

    My bottom-line: Don’t try to be a “healthy girl.” Don’t feel shame for being “unhealthy” or for being what you are now. Think deeply about what makes you want to change. Ask yourself, do I really have to? Be satisfied with yourself. Come as you are, accept as you are.

    I need to take several meds for my disease (pulmonary hypertension), and two are particularly disturbing. One is a diuretic, which I hate, but I have learned my way around it.
    The other one in the anti-coagulation pill. I know I have to take it, but it led me to a series of problems: really heavy menstruation, that can last for three MONTHS, low iron, low folic acid, the impossibility of doing any sports, and so on… I’ve tried the IUD, but it didn’t work out well for me.
    So what do you advice, for someone who needs to take meds, but also needs to prevent these heavy periods?
