In short, for infants it’s all downside and no benefit. About 10 percent of older children will also get too much fluoride from the combination of drinking water, toothpaste and the small amount of fluoride in food, pesticides and other sources. About 40 percent of Americans have fluorosis, though it is often very mild. MONDAY, April 27, 2015 (HealthDay News) The U.S. government has decreased its recommended level of fluoride in drinking water for the first time in a half-century, to prevent staining of tooth enamel caused by overexposure to fluoride. The optimal fluoride level in drinking water to prevent toot.

The U.S. in 2015 lowered the recommended amount of fluoride in drinking water supplies, from up to 1.2 milligrams per liter to 0.7 milligrams per liter, mainly to cut down on potential damage. In the US, the EPA has set a maximum contamination level of 4 milligrams per liter per day. If you’re not sure whether your water is fluoridated or how much fluoride it might contain, you can check with your. Drinking water: Since fluoride is ubiquitous in the environment, almost all water sources contain a small amount of the mineral.

Of course, the amount of fluoride contained in these non-fluoridated. According to the ADA, dental fluorosis, also known as mottled teeth, occurs when children consume too much fluoride over too long a period of time while their teeth are developing. Most cases of fluorosis result from young children taking fluoride supplements or swallowing fluoride toothpaste when the water they drink is already fluoridated.

Those warnings were heeded this month. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced plans to lower the agency’s maximum recommended fluoride level from 1.2 milligrams per liter of water to 0.7. At least one nearby city has already complied.

Asheville has fielded criticism for years about its use of fluoride. But the EPA, which regulates drinking water quality, has not acted to limit the amount of fluoride that can be added. It requires that when fluoride concentrations exceed 2 parts per million. A fluoride testing kit can help determine the fluoride content in your drinking water.

The idea of testing fluoride content in water is common in situations where rainwater tanks have added fluoride or you suspect that your city water is too fluoridated. If you live in the United States, it is highly likely that the tap water you use is enriched with fluoride, a substance that helps prevent tooth decay. However, due to concerns that fluoridated.

List of related literature:

Although severe human health effects from high fluoride in drinking water are not commonly reported in the United States, naturally occurring fluoride concentrations in waters do exceed U.S. drinking water standards in several areas.

However, the ranges of intake levels, or estimated average intake levels, associated with a number of adverse effects, are in the range of intakes expected with fluoridated drinking water in the U.S. Fluoride exposures in the U.S. are driven largely by consumption of drinking water and beverages made with tap water.

At the regulatory level, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sets the legal upper limit at 4.0 ppm F. No one adds fluoride to drinking water at that level, but it can occur naturally (although it is rare to find this high level in the United States).

As a consequence, all water sources with concentrations higher than 0.5 parts per million of F should be monitored on a permanent basis to avoid overexposure if the fluoride content of the water increases after the introduction of salt fluoridation.

Higher levels of fluoride (3 to 10 ppm), such as may occur in certain naturally fluoridated waters, may cause mottling of the teeth in some of the children who drink it, although this does not occur if the initial exposure to excessive fluoride takes place after the teeth are fully developed.

In response to the increase in fluorosis, the U.S. Public Health Service has reduced the optimal fluoride concentration it recommends in public drinking water.53 Due to concern over excess fluoride intake, a warning is now required on fluoride-containing toothpastes (Figure 12.24b).

  • As always love you guys. Just a couple of points of contention relating naturally occurring fluoride and what is added to the water supply can and are most often different compounds (i.e., Hexafluorosilicic acid ). As we both know Correlation does not count when it comes to safety profiles. Also fluoride, consumption is loosely controlled since there are many consumer products outside of water that have added fluoride. But since we are correlating, please refer to the quote” The standardized weighted mean difference in IQ score between exposed and reference populations was minus 0.45 (95% CI 0.56 to 0.35) using a random-effects model. Thus, children in high fluoride areas had significantly lower IQ scores than those who lived in low fluoride areas. ” Developmental Fluoride Neurotoxicity: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. Environ Health Perspect. These issues need to be resolved without the risk of confirmation bias, in my humble opinion. If I really want added fluoride to my daily routine, give me the choice of whether I want to partake in this experiment or not. You Know Just Saying 😉 Thanks Ralph Turchiano

  • The Nazis used Heavily Fluoridated water in concentration camps,to control the prisoners.
Today, governments still using it on you.

  • I’ve read this great paper on the effects of fluoride and it concluded that its applauded purpose is only through topical use on the teeth, and even with that fluoride has been noted to adversely cause damage to the enamel (ex: dental fluorosis) for reasons of one being deficient in calcium and magnesium, and/or overexposure/overconsumption. In respect to this, there is a clear distinction between naturally occurring fluoride and it’s artificially added compounds. Being an additive in water sources due to acclaimed service to oral health has been shown unnecessary as humans have not been deficient in this mineral, and unethical to communities and populations as it causes more health hazards which counteract its disputable benefits in ingestibles. As so, fluoride is also an additive in foods such as cereals and teas. Moreover, fluoride shows it’s negative aspects on brain health, cancer, bones, and more, and this is when it is consumed in excess, which is a high percentage at this point. Why it’s still in place is by old reasons from when it was first introduced, which can easily by outdated by current and previous studies, but it’s loose placement in some countries still remains. It’s a question why this standard is instilled, and it’s abundance in our consumables “suggest that the prime public health priority in relation to fluoride is how to reduce ingestion from multiple sources, rather than adding this abundant and toxic chemical to water or food.”

  • I think Fluoride is so very good for idiots drink lots of it it makes you smarter like this guy in this video and this woman they are so smart. Do your research dig in and learn if it is true what this person in this video says. Buyer beware it is your fault if you do not investigate the facts.

  • Latest studies show flouride is linked to depression, obesity and premature hair loss.
Prevention of cavities is a diet issue, to eliminate sugar and acidic foods and brush after meals.

  • Wow can he hear himself it’s ok to put in your mouth in small doses but not a little more??????????????????????????????????????????? It’s either SAFE OR NOT SAFEgeez! I don’t need to wear a white outfit and go to School for 6 more years to figure that one out

  • Use “Miswak “ instead of toothpaste it is the Sunnah of the Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W) and Cure for many diseases.Chewing miswak cleanse the roots of the teeth. Also toothpaste contains fluoride which adversely affects brain and pineal gland and world elite are also using toothpastes to mind control common masses. And never use Mouthwash as it blocks the roots of teeth for Months by using only once or twice.
Use Miswak from now on and if you were using toothpaste previously then chew as much ginger as you can to get rid of ill effects of toothpaste which have been accumulated in your mouth and head for years.

  • Brought to you by the people who produce and make millions, from fluoride. In Ireland, fluoridation was introduce in 1962 and within a few years there was no longer a need for dentists, well if fluoride is all that good, that is what should have happened. However, dental hygene in the Republic of Ireland is no better than dental hygene in Northern Ireland, where drinking water is not fluoridated.
The sugar industry also benefits enormously from fluoride as it gives people the false impression that it is ok to consume sugar. And of course, the sugar industry maintains its (un)healthy profit. Money v. the general health of the population = money wins.

  • Thank you for speaking out! Can you get more dentists to become aware of this and stop recommending drinking fluoride? our Dept of Public Harms will NEVER admit they were wrong!

  • Ya lets forcefully medicate the entire population and not limit sugar and processed food (the real cause of tooth decay) our country is fucking nuts

  • This is LIE. Flouride harms teeth much more than it’s absence. Also it destroys the brain making people dumb was used in Nazi camps to avoid resistance. It’s poison, no matter how much you eat it.

  • this is why i use baking soda to brush my teeth my grandpa did it and i heard it damages your dreams my brother martin told me that and he is very old so he knows alot

  • Bullshit. Are you telling me that fluoride only weakens bones if it’s accompanied by millions of other fluoride ions? Do the chemical properties of fluoride change with concentration?

I can be certain that there are people out there for whom the downsides of fluoridated water outweigh the benefits. So how about we just get everybody to brush their teeth instead of mass medicating the entire population, even for people who don’t need it?

  • They put fluoride in bottle water and some water products they do not list fluoride on the label, but you can find it listed on their website.

  • Strange the USA introduce Fluoride into the water supply after the second world war knowing that the Germans were using it on prisoners of war to keep them docile and stupid.

  • Who have you been paid off by Dr Nemeth? Last time I checked Fluoride is a neuro-toxin with absolute zero health benefits or any essential function in the human body (including your teeth). If ingested its poisonous. Its in the same family in the periodic table with Chlorine, Bromine and Iodine. It actually displaces the iodine from the Thyroid leading to iodine deficiency. Yep Dr ‘I’m on the payroll’, it definitely sounds like something I want to put in my mouth everyday, twice a day. Just ask the Aluminium industry what their favorite by-product is, which they cannot dump legally, but can somehow be used in our water and put in our toothpaste with a bit of paid BS. Research Edward Bernays, he is the person who started all this propaganda about flouride.
