The Moment You Stop Dieting and Start Cooking Good Food. Someday you may get so tired of dieting and counting calories that you just give up—and start cooking and appreciating good food. And maybe it will make all the difference. HealthyWomen Editors. 05 Jun 2018 Your Wellness.

Here is what happens once you stop dieting and start enjoying real, nourishing foods. 1. You find freedom in your eating When you’re no longer dieting but simply enjoying real, whole foods in their natural state, you let go of this identity of a dieter, someone who eats to lose weight. 5 Steps to Stop Dieting & Feel Normal Around Food. The road to recovery from Diet Culture looks different for everyone.

These steps provide a loose framework to make the process a little smoother. Here are the 5 steps to stop dieting and find Food Sanity: Step 1: Eat exactly what appeals to you (including the “good” and the “bad”). The key to a sustainable, healthy diet is to concentrate on eating whole, unprocessed foods most of the time while allowing for a treat here and there. 4. Give volumetrics a try.

You see, way back in 2012 I hopped right off the diet train. I was so, so, so tired of watching that scale hop up and down like a deranged bunny — losing 10 lbs only to gain 15 back (rinse, repeat). And I learned that those 10 lbs lost probably weren’t “real” anyway. The truth is, meat is a weight-loss-friendly food because it’s high in protein. Protein is by far the most filling nutrient, and eating a high-protein diet can make you burn up to 80–100 more. Fat loss happens when you ditch the scale, find an activity you enjoy, and start to see food as fuel instead of something to feed your emotions or occupy your time.

Once you realize that food doesn’t determine your worth, you won’t get sucked into this ridiculous cycle of dieting.

  • Hey Madeleine! I love your new approach to no more diets. I’m currently trying to transition from counting calories religiously to focusing more on nourishing my body and intuitive eating. I would love if you could make a video about HOW/the steps I might be able to take to do that successfully?? Thanks girl!

  • Hey, crew working for Tasty: are you afraid of giving us precise measurements of all the ingredients? When you withhold vital information, you are no better than those lousy 5 minutes crafter who wannabe cook and also withhold necessary information to make some of the things you create. Because sometimes nothing turns out right. There was no flavor in one dish, another didn’t rise because it needs baking soda and/or baking powder. How can anyone take this video at face value when you information block us?

  • I had to watch this twice for the message at 8:40 to finally stick with me. While I am vegan for ethical reasons as well, I did it in the beginning to restrict my eating and now I just can’t get out of that mindset anymore. I fell full on into an eating disorder and I WILL take steps to recover from that. Just perhaps I’ll do it as an Omni…

  • i hate cooking… i love healthy food and I am actually fairly good at it, but I hate cooking it…I’m a working mother of three and wife and my culture demands that I should love cooking..(sigh) i prefer cleaning to cooking tbh

  • You are the loveliest girl, so down to earth. Thank you for this video, the message really touched me. I have a son yr age… Sadly at 56 i still struggle with a health obsession type of eating disorder which steals my joy. I need to work on this because life is too short. I go on fruit only diets then end up falling off and eating loads of junk food with dairy! . Here in South Africa we dont get the lovely vegan stuff that you do over there , but still no excuse. I love yr channel! Have a friend in the uk which i’v convinced to go vegan & i’v introduced her to yr channel. Keep up the great work sweetpea

  • You are an amazing motivational speaker! I love the way you present the fact that the pathway to the goal must be enjoyable in order for it to be sustainable. Excellent video.

  • Im starting it and i feel good af, cut out all processed foods from diet except some no sugar natural PB, some small toasts only for breakfast… i dont really wanna lose weight nor gain but i can feel the difference in my muscle toning already (i exercise a lot too)

  • God wants us to eat how He makes, not what the machines or people make. That is so simple!!! I do not know why people invented processed food. Processed food is for emergency only.

  • No I find handing food (especially raw food) gross. I do it because I have to. I endure this disgusting CHORE, and get criticized. I’d rather scrub my toilet or take out the garbage because at least nobody cares if it’s not how mom would have done it

  • Clean Food = Whole Foods. Whole Foods as in whole intact foods. Nothing isolated from a food, like extracted sugar and oil. That’s what true clean food is, and true clean food is the only food according to science, that can reverse heart disease, the leading killer of humans.

  • Leto seems to be the hot diet right now. And the few people I know who are on it say they feel better than they ever have. What is your opinion

  • Hi DaniI’m new to your channel and am going to try to eat cleaner. Old habits are so hard to break, so it can be a bit scary. I’m looking forward to learning from you

  • I don’t know where to start Dani I eat fast food to often but I do cook at home but it’s mostly breakfast & lunch I eat unhealthy dinner is eaten at Home I need a nutritionist

  • I am so ready to make changes and I get overwhelmed by the the info out there. I ran across one of your videos! This is a God send! Today starts my baby steps to making healthier choices! I’m excited! God’s timing is always perfect!

  • I just found your channel and really enjoyed this video! Espescially from minute 16 on is worth to be heard over and over again! Greetings from Germany! You are beautiful and smart!

  • real question is how does anyone have any of these ingredients lying around and lmfao did they jus teach us how to make scrambled eggs next we know is how to turn cow into milk

  • just embed your video into my page since we are speaking about similar topics

  • A good rule of thumb in making food choices: read the label on food, if you can’t go to the grocery store and get each individual ingredient, leave it alone.

  • Hi i saw one of your videos with granola bars with chocolate on top and i can’t find it can you please send me the recipe thank you

  • Hi, I just wanted to say thank you. I’ve never been a fan of diets and restrictions, but in the last few months I gained weight, which led to a mental fight of keeping to what I believe in about eating and giving in to dieting because of all those social “diet-massages” I have been confronted with.
You helped me keep my focus on what’s important. Thanks again ❤️

  • For 4 1/2 years I’ve been dealing with autoimmune issues. After being passed around from doctor to doctor I was sent to a doctor who in January said to me…first thing is I’m recommending a transition into clean eating. I immediately did as I was told (my body felt like it was dying). Well here we are 3 1/2 months in and WOW!!!!!!!! In just months I’m living a whole other life! I’ve made it my mission to talk about clean eating (and it’s easy because most people can’t believe the change and immediately ask what I did) because I now truly believe cheap empty food is killing us.

  • omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg you may me up

  • I tend to work a lot and get home very late at night so I dont feel like I have the energy to cook so I’ll just get something unhealthy and already made to eat when I get home. How can I get out of this cycle and get into eating healthier and living my best self

  • I just stumbled upon your channel, and this video was exactly what I needed to hear today. I’ve been restricting my calories and foods for about a year now (with little to no results from it), and I have been struggling mentally with eating for some time now. After watching this video, I’m feeling inspired to give up calorie counting once and for all and try to find some peace with my eating habits. Thank you for being so honest and real about a really difficult topic

  • If they’re fruit do they have fruit or like if they eat fruit do they think I don’t know do you just do they have fruit because their fruit?

  • I never thought a youtube video could help me with ED/disordered eating but thank you. thank you. thank you.
You’ve helped me get that little push to start the journey towards help and recovery.

  • Dani, I’m sooo new at this! Thank you so much for making this video informative, detailed, interesting to watch, and very easy to understand! Glad to share it and subscribe to your channel!

  • I always feel physically better, happier, mentally cleaner, gut health, etc when I eat mostly vegetables. I have no clue why I go back to eating processed foods. Thank you for this video. I am on a quest to eat cleaner for myself and my family.

  • Im eating clean on a ketogenic diet…i don’ t eat any processed food just good fat/ meats / eggs cheese @ veg and berries…so simple…@ i can loose wieght on this…. i don’ t do sugar subs they are pioson…i will use some coconut sugar but very sparingly…i feel 66 feel like i did when i was 20….i realise i was a carb sugar junkie….

  • Hi Maddie. I’m really sorry to hear what you went through. I definitely think that all those fad diets are dreadful and should be eradicated. However, I feel that by discrediting all weight loss efforts as caused by societal pressures there’s a danger of down grading the very real need for many to cut weight for genuine health reasons. Far more people die annually of weight related disease due to obesity than due to anorexia or bulimia. I don’t say that out of ‘concern trolling’. I say it out of basic human empathy. In the same way I don’t want anyone to experience anorexia or bulimia. I might not know you personally but it doesn’t stop me caring about you or anyone else.

I don’t know what the answer is or where the balance should lie. I’m genuinely interested in your opinion as someone who’s been through an ED as I haven’t. How do we, can we, encourage a healthy regard for food to everyone so that we avoid either extreme?

  • Madeleine I wish I could just reach through the computer screen and give you a big hug! I can just feel the emotion in your voice, and I am so sorry you feel regret over some of your past videos. I know you have always only wanted to help others, and I am very appreciative that you have shared your journey. Much respect to you for being mature enough to not only realize a past error in judgement, but then to admit it to the world. Not everyone is willing to do that, and it takes a humble person to do so. Keep up the good work! ♥

  • I enjoy watching other people cook and learning recipes and techniques. One of the reasons I’ve started my own channel…! Food should make everyone Happy…!

  • I have never experienced such bad feelings about food and restriction of of it, so it’s not something I can relate to. I am a very… Disciplinated (?) person in this area of my life, so what happens is that everytime I am convinced that some adjustments must be made on my eating habits, my mind rules my will, so its pretty easy. Unfortunately, in other areas of my life, I don’t have such will power. That’s why I can relate to what you’re saying in this video so much.

  • Looking for light in a world of darkness????? There is hope. If you don’t know It is no mistake you are reading this message. God wants you to know how important you are to Him and His Son Jesus Christ. He came and died for you. He loves you more than you could ever know. Today can be the day of salvation for those who believe
Repentance prayer: Lord Jesus I believe You are the Son of God. I also admit I am a sinner. I need and want Your forgiveness. I accept Your death on the cross as the penalty for my sin and recognize that your mercy and grace is a gift You offer to me because of Your great love not based on anything I have done. Cleanse me and make me Your child. By faith I receive You into my heart as the Son of God and as Savior and Lord of my life. From now on, help me live for you, with You in control. I want to ask forgiveness and deliverance for all the sins that I have committed ( list all the sins that come to mind…..) and sins I did not mention. Please Lord give me power, strength and guidance I need to not commit these sins any more. Please deliver me from temptation and from the hands of the enemy. Cleanse me and cover me with your blood. Soften my hardened heart and make me new again. Bless me within so that I will be obedient to your voice and guidance.
    In your precious name Jesus
