The American Dental Association suggests how to promote healthy teeth in children: Don’t share feeding spoons with baby or put baby’s pacifier in your mouth. Wipe down gums after each feeding with a clean, damp cloth. Begin brushing your child’s teeth as soon as they come in, using a child-sized toothbrush and a light smear of fluoride toothpaste. Provide supervision.

8 Ways to Protect Your Child’s Teeth. You can keep your child from getting tooth decay by starting his dental care early. Follow these steps to prevent cavities and keep his beautiful smile healthy.

Your child should see a dentist by his first birthday. Early preventive care saves you money in the long run. A CDC report shows that dental care costs are nearly 40% lower over a 5-year period for children who see a dentist by age 5.

Before your baby has teeth, you can gently brush his gums. Use water on a baby toothbrush, or clean them with a soft washcloth. When your baby’s teeth appear, brush twice a day with an infant toothbrush and fluoridated toothpaste. Start flossing when two of his teeth touch each other. Ask your dentist about techniques and schedules.

It is essential that we teach good oral hygiene, so brushing, flossing and even mouthwash are things that we can instil in our children from an early age. Brush 2 times a day (morning and night) with fluoride toothpaste to prevent cavities. For newborns, wipe the gums with a wet cloth or pad to keep the mouth clean. For children younger than age 3, use an amount of toothpaste that is the size of a grain of rice.

Tooth bonding can protect a damaged tooth and cover teeth that are worn down, chipped, or discolored. If you’ve lost a lot of that outer shell, your dentist may cover the tooth with a. Make sure your child doesn’t eat or drink anything with sugar in it after bedtime tooth brushing. Saliva flow decreases during sleep.

Without enough saliva, teeth are less able to repair themselves after an acid attack. Make sure your child brushes. Brushing with fluoride toothpaste two times each day is important for preventing cavities.

Sealants are a quick, easy, and painless way to prevent most of the cavities children get in the permanent back teeth, where 9 in 10 cavities occur. Once applied, sealants protect against 80% of cavities for 2 years and continue to protect.     1. Floss after EVERY TIME YOU EAT ANYTHING! Bacteria from lodged food, even if it’s not noticeable, is THEE #1 issue
    2. Change your toothbrush every few weeks, not months. Well-worth the few $’s/mo
    3. Drink all staining liquids-coffee, tea (stain more so than coffee or cigarettes!) soda etcsew/ a straw.Sounds ridiculous, but works wonders
