You are not alone, yet the label clearly states that it should not be applied to your nostrils. In addition, the VapoRub label says it is not to be used in any way for children under age 2. The BabyRub formula can be used on babies 3 months and older, but it also specifically states not to. VapoRub has drawbacks in addition to its ineffectiveness as a nasal decongestant.

It’s unsafe for any use in children under 2 years old. In adults and children age 2 and older, use it only on the neck and chest. Swallowing a few teaspoons of camphor — one of the main ingredients in VapoRub and other topical medications, such as Campho-Phenique and Bengay — can cause deadly poisoning in. Rubin had never heard of Vicks VapoRub causing such a problem, but he knew the product was labeled for use only in children older than 2 years and that the product should never be applied to. Pediatricians maintain that Vicks should not be applied near mouth or nose of a toddler.

Neither should it be heated before applying on skin. You can massage skin with the ointment for enhanced efficacy. A coin sized quantity of vicks can be safely massaged into the child’s chest for relief from a bad cold and congestion. Key info to know about using Vicks Vaporub ▪️ Vicks vaporub should not be used for babies under two years old. ▪️ Do not apply Vicks vaporub to. Doctors recommend that you avoid putting Vicks VapoRub on, in, or around your nose.

The camphor can be absorbed through your mucous membranes and is toxic, especially to toddlers and babies. can you put vicks vapor rub under your nose. A 23-year-old male asked: Can i put Vicks vapor rub under my nose to relieve congestion. Is it bad?

Dr. Donald Alves answered. 23. Yes you can put Vick’s under your nose and in your nose!! It’s also good to put on your chest when you’re congested and you can also Rub it under your feet and put socks on before bed and when you wake up your feet feel like baby’s feet.

When you have a headache rub it on your temples and your headache will go away. In fact, putting Vicks VapoRub directly under the nose, as opposed to rubbing it on the chest, may actually make it harder to breathe, according to results from a study published in the journal. As a pulmonary physician, I can explain the real reason there is a warning against putting Vicks VapoRub in the nostrils.

It is not the camphor, but the petrolatum. Petroleum jelly or mineral oil can cause a chronic form of pneumonia when aspirated into the lungs.

  • I can tell you never smoked. Been putting Vicks Vapor Rub in my nose, on my throat, chest, and back since 1972 my friend. I don’t wan to call you unkind names, but it doesn’t do that. If it was doing that, you must have already been up in there digging for gold or something. Plus, I’m thinking: I might just put some vicks in my nose to reduce possibly the amount of air that might be infective air. Just thinking out loud. Probably no difference, but I do think I will put some on my rubber N100 Mask so it creates an effective seal. Good Luck. 😉

  • Bruh, its not even bad. Dont worry, just dont put it into your nose, but put it in the middle of your lips and nose, so under your nose

  • Title: Push your nose upward for 10 SECONDS see what happens!

  • Would you suggest starting with the stuffier side first? I’ve been trying the nose Freida for her congestion and I can barely get some snot out of her left nostral but the right one is so clogged there’s nothing coming out. So I was thinking about squirting the water in her left nostral first?? Let me know what you think

  • The Vic’s might stop cats scratching the furniture, but then the furniture especially if it is fabrics will smell of Vic mint. It is a personal choice scratched furniture or furniture smelling permantly mint. I think I prefer former as the smell and taste of mint makes me sick.

  • In the UK we are told not to use Vicks on the feet and chest.  Vicks doesn’t work and it might be dangerous for infants and children…. In young children, it can instead act like an irritant to the airways, potentially causing more mucus production and nasal congestion. Xx
