Just three states have laws on the books setting a minimum age, according to CWIG: Illinois law requires children to be 14 years old before being left alone; Maryland sets the minimum age at. Leaving your child home alone for the first time is a big deal—real moms weigh in on the minimum age kids should be before staying home alone. Leaving your child home alone for the first time is a big deal—here’s how old moms agree kids should be if they’re staying home alone. However, with regards to when a child is old enough to be left home alone, the law is very vague.

There are child protection laws in every state. But only three are specific about the age a child is considered old enough to be left at home alone. Illinois is the strictest in this regard. A child has to be fourteen in order to be left alone in Illinois. Let’s start with a benchmark used by many child development experts: Kids usually aren’t mature enough to stay home unsupervised for long periods of time until the age of 11 or 12.

This is not an iron-clad rule. Some 10-year-olds are very mature and some 15-year-olds aren’t. It is determined on a case-by-case basis, but the state explains that as a general rule, a child 10 years old and younger is not responsible enough to be left home alone. A child over the age of 10 and under the age of 12 will be evaluated, but the case may not always be assigned for a CPS investigation. If you answered no to any questions 1 through 8, yes to 9 through 15, or no to 16 to 25, it is recommended you delay leaving your child home alone until.

When Are Children Old Enough to Walk Home From School Alone | Real Simple As parents, we often have to fight the urge to be overprotective of our kids. Once they get to a certain age, especially in the tween years, a bit of autonomy is actually good for them. Curiously, some states have laws that specify the age kids need to reach before they can stay home alone (Illinois is 14 for example, whereas Maryland is 8).

Others offer a “suggested age,” and. So, Sarah from Coon Rapids wanted to know: At what age should your child stay home alone? And for how long? no time alone 8-10 years old – less than 3 hours 11-13 years old – less than 12. Maturity Check Most states don’t have laws stipulating how old a child needs to be to stay home alone.

So the decision is left up to the parents’ judgment. It’s pretty obvious to most parents that.

We asked each other what was going on but we didn’t know. Next thing u know we see the man trying to get into the house! Be both don’t have phones so we stayed downstairs and hid.
