It’s an embarrassing problem for many children, causing many of them to shy away from social interactions. Whiles there is no cure for stuttering, there area therapies that can help.. Finding the right words is one thing, but for many children getting them out is a problem. One in four young children will have a pattern of stuttering as their speech develops.. “You don’t know which one is going to out grow it. So the theory used to be don’t treat it they’re going to outgrow it, but that’s not the theory anymore. I’ve worked with children as young as three,” says Mary Jo Haughey, a speech therapist with The Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida.. A lot of research has gone into stuttering. Most involve altering patterns that contribute to the problem, especially in young children.. “With them it’s really modifying the environment, having the parents slow-down their speech pattern, not having a lot of competing noise like if you sit down at the dinner table turn the TV off. You don’t work directly on the stuttering itself at that age level,” says Haughey.. If the child is school aged, it’s best to talk the issue over with their teachers, because they benefit from education, too.. “If you ask them a question, let them raise their hand, don’t call on them immediately. Let them be the one to volunteer. If they’re extremely self-conscious about their speech and they have to do an oral report let them do it individually,” says Haughey.. Speech therapy may be used to help kids find their voice.. “Like lots of people when they sing, they won’t stutter because they’re changing the loudness of their voice. They’re changing the pattern. And that’s a lot of the things that you will work on in therapy,’ says Haughey.. The child might be encouraged. Look for and avoid trouble spots.. “If they wanted to say ‘by’ and they’ll get really stuck. It’s called an easy contact, try it with ‘byyy’ don’t press those lips hard together, make it a soft contact,” says Haughey.. Famous stutters include Winston Churchill, James Earl Jones, Nicole Kidman and Tiger Woods, proving a speech disorder doesn’t have to stop anyone from achieving their goals.. How to Help Your Child With Stuttering. Avoid correcting or interrupting him when he is talking, and ask others to not correct him either. Don’t ask him to repeat himself or tell him to slow down. Don’t make him practice saying certain words or.
A prepatory set is a stuttering modification technique that allows you to ease through stutter instead of coming to a complete and halting stop. To do them, simply stretch out the first sound in the word that’ll cause you to stutter, moving through it to the next sound and the rest of the word, continuing on with your flow of speech. The SLP will talk to the person about how stuttering affects their everyday life and can help the person practice ways to manage stuttering.
Children and adults who stutter may want to look into local support groups, where they can talk with others who stutter and learn about other helpful resources. Voluntary stuttering is fearand anxietyreducing and confidence boosting This practice helps reduce stuttering frequency, secondary behaviors (like heavy blinking, head jerking, any physical behaviors people engage in while stuttering), and physical tension Voluntary stuttering helps change speech-related thoughts and improves quality of life. The importance of focusing on attitudinal and emotional factors of stuttering has increasingly been included as part of stuttering therapy for adult clients. Such treatment may include discussion of self-acceptance, self-disclosure, and engagement in pseudostuttering as a desensitization technique. Desensitization: Reducing the Fear of Stuttering-Many people who stutter attempt to hide and avoid their stuttering.
For example, a stutterer who has grown to fear the letter “d” may edit out of her speech any words that begin with “d.”. have a family history of stuttering. Parents can also use therapeutic techniques to help their child feel less self-conscious about stuttering. I do not want to say that I fully understand how a person who stutters would feel.
I do recognize that it was frustrating and that I was offended by the reactions I got. I do not know how it would feel if I were actually interviewing and could not get hired because of stuttering. with stuttering, genetic counseling is the only way to do this. secondary prevention. early detection and treatment of communication disorders which may lead to the elimination of the disorder or retardation of its progress. catch it before it “gets going”.
My $0.02? Pseudostuttering should be an absolute requirement for any speech-language pathologist who hopes to help people who stutter, and the vast majority of people who stutter whom I know would agree with me. We are not mocking people who stutter when we do this.

Yet, whether or not the clutterer also stutters (or previously stuttered), any therapy techniques that focus attention on fluency targets, such as easy onset of the voice, more prolonged syllables, or correct breathing, can also help the person to manage many of the cluttering symptoms.
I begin by telling the family, using appropriate vocabulary, that research suggests that stuttering first arises from an innate predisposition toward disfluency.
Ask the persons getting treatment for stuttering to judge the occurrence of stutterings, abrupt onset of phonation, a faster than required rate of speech, muscular tension while speaking, and most other target responses.

Great Video clip! Apologies for butting in, I would love your thoughts. Have you considered Seyliana Strength Salgado (probably on Google)? It is a good one off product for stopping your embarrassing stuttering without the normal expense. Ive heard some great things about it and my best friend Jordan after many years got cool success with it.
I’m 25. I noticed I developed a tiny stutter when I was about 15, but it wasn’t anything major. As time has gone on it has got progressively worse, to the point where I don’t necessarily stutter anymore, but I basically have one big speech block.I physically CANNOT get words out. Over the last 2 years, it has gotten soo bad that I have to write things down on my phone to communicate. Even when I do get words out I speak really fast and I get out of breath very easily. My chest is basically constantly tight, and in always feel breathless. Does anyone know if this is curable or have any advice/techniques I can try?

I feel like one of the things that make it worse is looking away. Notice every time he’s about to stutter he loses eye contact. That’s what I do when I’m about to stutter. So I just did everything I didn’t want to do to make it better. Read aloud, talk to any and everybody, talk on the phone (probably the hardest part for me), learn a new language and say everything I learn aloud, sing, even make YouTube videos to where I’m forced to talk, EVERYTHING lol. & Honestly it has gotten better, not perfect but better.
The cure is in the self. I love public speaking. I love it so much. But I am never able to make a sentence without stuttering. I know what I’m gonna say, just something happens in my mind.
I used to stutter as a kid!! Really bad!! Now that I’m 24years old I still do it randomly and mostly if I over think about the word!! But I’ve always talked alot!! To all my stutterin people don’t give up!!
I had a friend in college that liked to talk with me because I would let him finish his words/sentences when he stuttered instead of trying to put words in his mouth and/or finish his sentences for him. Once he realized I had the patience to wait, he slowed down and stuttered a lot less.
Its annoying when your on the phone and you know what to say but it just doesnt come out, and they turn the phone off, or I have to hit myself to help get the word out
What helps me is to talk very calmly and practice before the mirror. If I catch myself stuttering I remember where I fucked up and practice the same word or sentence on my own.

There is a science to get rid of stuttering. I can show you how to talk without any delay in speech when you are ready.. Coach Davoud at your service. http://www.nlpsuccesscoaches.com If it is genetic why people start stuttering in different ages. Even if it is, you could change our genetic blueprint according to Dr. Bruce Lipton professor of molecular biology. Also if parents of the smoker the statistic shows more likely the children will see that behavior and will start and get I habit of smoking. So if one of the parents were stutter then the kids see it and could learn it by imitating the parents who are role models of the kind. I have helped many to get rid of their issue with the scientific methods of understanding (genetic or not you can do without the speech delay.). When you are ready, I will be at your service. Coach Davoud
As a parent who has a very young child that is struggling with stuttering, to the individuals who are affected by stuttering, what advice can you give? What has helped you, what hasn’t? Do you feel that stress makes it “worse”? Thank you for your feedback.
My stutter started out as a repetitive stutter and then after years of therapy, changed to a blocking stutter. Which is honestly much harder to deal with. I cant even use words that begin with vowels because I can’t force the sound out. I sometimes can if I put a “h” in front of the word. but still.

i have a small stuttering problem only because i keep looking at the words ahead which messes up my talking because sometimes i say a word that i think is next but isn’t.i also mush my words so i have to un mush them.
I dunno if I didn’t have it before or if I didn’t notice it before. I think I have a stutter now? I also have tremors idk if it’s something serious but no one points out anything wrong with my speech soo
I’ve stuttered all my life. In High school I did some research and did a presentation on stuttering. I wanted for people to be aware of my stuttering and to know how to treat and respect people whom also stutters. It’s good to be open minded and educate people on what you are going through. I closed my presentation with a simple speech. “We don’t ask for your sympathy or to be treated better because we are different but we do ask that you don’t mock or imitate us. It’s something we live with everyday and we don’t need anyone else to remind us what we have to go through day in and day out. Thank you for giving me your patients and times to complete my presentation.”
Through many years of speech therapy. I have greatly improved but the stuttering will always come and go and I have learned to adapt to life with it. I graduated from college and have a great job as an IT.
Hello guys, I gues we all have something in common, that’s why we are here. Am proposing forming a support group or something. Hearing each other’s story will really be uplifting.
As a kid, I was and I still am very self conscious of my stuttering. I used to never like to answer questions at school because I thought everyone would laugh at my stuttering. I have been in speech therapy since I was 7 years old. I have gotten better but I still stutter a lot. This video gave me hope that I wouldn’t stutter anymore!

I have a Stutter that I never knew about until recently, and I know why it came up recently because my ADHD medication has been known to worsen a stutter (not cause) and I just got a higher dosage and it “started” than. I think I never knew because it was nonverbal. I’m sixteen
Im 12 turning 13 & im getting a stutter & no one else has a stutter in my family [as far as ik] don’t get why but the more annoyed or sad i am it gets worse it seems to depend on my emotions

My school does a lot of presentations and speeches, and I would remember literally crying the night before because I knew that my already low self esteem and the confidence that I didn’t have were going to shatter when I’m giving my speech, start stuttering and the whole class would just look at me like “uhh…..is she ok? Is something wrong with her?” when I’m already very reserved and don’t talk to half my classmates. Seriously though, if I had one wish, I would wish that my stutter would go away.

Anytime i came across stutterers in real life or YouTube i feel encouraged as i realise mine is not bad. I shutter mainly when angry or during an argument or sometimes on phone. My shuttering comes mainly because i talk fast and as a result i mumble words, as a kid it was worst as a stamp my feet and squeeze my hands sometimes to talk but as i grew older it gradually went away. Lastly i rarely stutter in a public speech.

For some people, stuttering (a fight, flight and freeze response) comes from childhood trauma whether one or multiple events over a period of time. Plus in the field of epigenetic research, trauma is passed down through generations which maybe for some, another reason for developing a stutter. Some reasons below – 1. Developmental. This is when your stutter comes as you learn to talk. There 4 factors to this one A) Genetics B) Brain structure. People who stutter have less brain flow in the broca’s area. The part of the brain that produces sounds for speech C) Developmental delays. D) Family dynamics. Pressure on children or fast-paced lifestyles can cause a stutter. 2. Neurogenic Stuttering caused by a stroke, brain damage or some head trauma. 3. Psychogenic Stuttering cause by some emotional trauma. 4. And stuttering that can be caused by medication.

Practice does make it perfect. By practicing mistakes (stuttering) you can only teach a person to stutter. Why? What for???? Why not to teach a student to do what all normal people do: to say the WHOLE word without breaking it in parts?

I strongly recommend to all my fellow stammers to buy this book by Lee Lovett Stuttering & Anxiety Self-Cures: What 1,000+ Stutterers Taught Me, 3rd Edition, updated 2019 Buy this book it will change your life. I basically never stuttered but it seems like the past 6 months I do sometimes when talking to customers. Prob tripping over my motor mouth

I sometimes can if I put a “h” in front of the word. but still.
Try stopping porn and masturbation.
Both are associated with feelings of guilt and shame.
I noticed an increase in my confidence and my speech also improved considerably.

I’m sixteen

Some reasons below –
1. Developmental. This is when your stutter comes as you learn to talk. There 4 factors to this one
A) Genetics
B) Brain structure. People who stutter have less brain flow in the broca’s area. The part of the brain that produces sounds for speech
C) Developmental delays.

When I speak by myself I’m fine! But when I speak to people or my family I stutter a bunch! A tip for me is to talk slowly or slur your words when you speak! And practice tongue twisters!

But it’s getting better since then. When I was little I used to stutter a lot, I could barely even say one word right!!! But it’s going good I don’t stutter as much anymore I just speak slowly and avoid certain words and it helps!!!!
