For others, taking a break means preventing and using some form of birth control. It may seem odd to actively prevent pregnancy after dealing with infertility. But when you’re preventing, you won’t be left wondering every month if you got pregnant despite not trying. Taking a break from trying to conceive is sometimes the catalyst that is required to create a pregnancy.

When you are able to let go of the stress of trying to become pregnant, it tends to be easier to. Anna Victoria Had to ‘Take a Break’ from Trying to Get Pregnant After Feeling ‘Overwhelmed’ this link is to an external site that may or may not meet accessibility guidelines. Perhaps that’s a sign that we should stop trying to get pregnant for a while.

I’m not talking about taking a break from sex or starting back on birth control. If you are not having any luck conceiving, it might sound counter productive to take a break, but it really can be a good idea. If you have recently suffered a miscarriage or other pregnancy issue, it’s always a.

Try for several months – if you simply can’t let it go that long – take a one-month break. Take the time during your break to be spontaneous. Put the thermometer away – don’t worry about positions or time.

Taking a break now and then appears to have no medical benefit. Long-term birth control use generally doesn’t harm your ability to get pregnant and have a healthy baby once you no longer. If you are trying to get pregnant, give yourself a break and stop obsessing over the following: How long does it take to get pregnant?

1. Timing Whether you’re trying to conceive naturally or are going through fertility treatments, it is easy to obsess. Of all couples trying to conceive: 30 percent get pregnant within the first cycle (about one month). 60 percent get pregnant within three cycles (about three months). 80 percent get pregnant within six cycles (about six months).

85 percent get pregnant within 12 cycles (about one year). 92 percent get pregnant. You may need to discontinue use or try something new.

The following medications have been known to impact male fertility: Tagamet (cimetidine), sulfasalazine, and nitrofurantoin are used to treat ulcer.

  • Hi doctor, please don’t ignore.
I’m 21 year old and I’m experiencing hair thinning and hairloss at frontal, and my tempels are receding my family has some little bald. Please tell me what should I do.Can usage of minoxdil can prevent my existing hair without loosing. Or should I take finasteride? Or both?. Can I start using finasteride at 21 years. Or anything that I can do. I really appriciate your suggestion.
    Thank you.

  • Again, thank you. Surely not the last time I’ll say it. Thank you for speaking from a truly genuine place. Like another of your viewers, I find this is an especially hard question to consider at 40+ (42 here). The feeling of urgency and running out of time is just so horrible, especially when you can see some of the doors starting to close in your face; at the same time, you might realize, that taking a break (or some version of taking a break) might be necessary and might be the only thing that can give you a real fighting chance. Certainly a ‘let go and let your higher power’ kind of thing. It is so hard for the desperate, stressed, greiving, angsting brain to understand that learning to enjoy life again can take the power out of that urgency or maybe the better way to think about it that actually enjoying life again (and, in your words, thereby helping the body become its most fertile self) is more far more valuable and far more helpful fertility wise than rushing through the next cycles completely depleted of physical, emotional, and spiritual resources. Someone told me the other day that the urgency is not realit at least has no value, and maybe this is how we make it less real. Just thinking out loud here as I struggle to enact something that I understand conceptually but have a hardtime digesting emotionally.

  • I started developing gyno within the first month. Pretty whack. I was only taking 0.5mg 5 days a week… should I stop and hope gyno goes away and then start at an even lower dose? Should I run an Aromatase Inhibitor at the same time? Is that safe long term?

  • I’ve been taking finesteride for over 20 years, I took a few months break to have a child.. noticed a difference in shedding. My hair never recovered unfortunately

  • Victoria, thank you for the video. I was feeling Obsessed, sad seeing negative after negative. I stopped after finding endometriosis. I could not take the pressure anymore. I am still trying but I have relaxed a lot and calm myself. Even thought it has been over a year, I feel much better. Using OPK did not help me at all because I knew I was ovulating and that was just a confirmation but also pressure for timing intercourse. So I quit the opk.

  • Hi There,
I really hope you will be able to help/guide me. I’ve recently visited my GP to discuss Finasteride, but I’m from Namibia and here its quite unknown. In Namibia we only have 5mg which is 5 times the recomended dose. So at the moment im drinking 1 5mg skipping 5 days and having the next one on the 6th day.
    Will this work?
Should i rather half the tablet and change the frequency?
What do you recomend with a 5mg dose?
    Thanks so much

  • I just found your channel and subscribed immediately. I’ve been taking finasteride and minoxidil with Nizoral shampoo for 13 years, beginning to show signs of hair loss again. I’m wondering if it could be because I use nicotine gum and if nicotine seems to have any impact on male pattern hair loss? (Tobacco-free nicotine products such as vaping, lozenges, etc) Can you please address that in your next episode?

  • I’ll ask the same question here as I did on another video.. Does the long or short term use of finasteride casue shrinkage of the penis or the genitals? It is not a topic you’ve brought up so far, but it’s a common question on the internet. It has made atleast myself to stop medication till I can get a clear answer from someone who knows what they’re talking about, like yourselves or someone with your knowledge

  • Love your reminder to keep living and buying clothes! Also love the idea of trusting (for me that trust is in God) that my baby is coming in one way or another. ❤️ Thank you for sharing, really helpful! X

  • There has been a lot of talk about Nanoxidil being a better option then Minoxidil. Is this actually worth using or can you use both since they are similar acting but different in ways they stimulate hair growth? Thanks

  • Hi Bettina, I just wanted to know, what shifted you back on the “we are going to try again” mood? (or maybe it just happened during the break…I’m kind of taking a break now but at the same time know I’m going to start again soon, so Im not sure that counts. Anyways, I enjoy my actual life, try not to put my life on hold. Still this break idea when your gonna turn 40 is terryfying, you take a break but already setting a time for it to end (like yeah…but how long, it cant be too long!!!)
Thank you again and please know that I am sorry about the bad times you had and I’m happy to see you succedded, it also gives us all hope 😉

  • This is so incredibly informative! Both of my pregnancies were unplanned and my second one was twins— I have no idea why this video was recommended to me but I had no idea how much goes into trying to conceive. It definitely makes me more empathetic to people who are trying and how much goes into it.

  • Hello dear doctors! I wanted to thank you for bring the field forward so willingly. Your discussions are appreciated. As top pioneers, however, I believe you may want to address the Post Finasteride Syndrome that’s increasingly receiving academic attention and the potential innovations in this field that should be studied. Isn’t it weird that we’re using something that was primarily designed to fight prostate cancer? Can’t we create the same effect in a more targeted manner?

  • Hi, Dr jayaprakash

Can we please talk about, at some point, ru58841? I know it’s not fda approved and obviously wouldn’t consider you ever prescribing it. I just wondered what your thoughts were on the current evidence, or if any at all.

Second, I’d love it if you guys had any insight into the effects of dht in the body in general, or thoughts on 5ar therapy on neurosteriods like allopregnanolone.

    Many thanks.

  • What do you think actually helped you get pregnant finally? When there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong and you time intercorse perfectly, with good cervical fluid, why does it not necessarily work?!

  • Doctor face: puffy bloated, juvenile hair, 90% probably of love handles and tiny shrunken wee wee. And you want to take advice from him lmao does he take propecia himself? Ask him

  • Aaaaw….this moved me to tears. Seeing you so wanting the pregnancy test to be positive. Going through all those months taking tests and all that. I’m so happy for you. Your baby is very lucky to have a mom like you. A mom that tried so hard to love her/him to life. A moms love…..the greatest love on earth. It’s so beautiful!! Congrats!:)

  • Can i convert the foam minoxidil into liquid by slight heating and apply it to scalp? I really prefer applying it in liquid form but don’t want the itching the actual liquid brings.

  • I want to do these things with my girlfriend but I also don’t want to buy condoms and I don’t want her to get pregnant. I don’t want to go to a store and the cashier is laughing at me when I purchase condoms. Plz help me..

  • One of my biggest question regarding the hair loss:
People who suffer from androgenetic alopecia are their hair prone to DHT because of their genes or is it there body is producing too much of DHT?… I mean people who don’t go through androgenetic alopecia can we say that their bodies don’t produce that much amount of DHT as compared to people going through androgenetic alopecia OR is it just every male’s hair in this world is prone to too much of DHT? In simple words does “genes” contribute to the factor of producing more DHT or does it contribute towards weakening of hair follicles due to presence of DHT in one’s body?

  • Hello, I’ve been taking 1mg of finasteride every day for the last 6 months, everything was going well (no side effects etc) but in the last couple of weeks my shedding has increased and my hair looks a little thinner. Is this normal at the 6 month mark on Finasteride?

  • Hi thanks for the information. Can you suggest a cycle of taking finasteride with clomid and Aramadix. I started taking finasteride few weeks ago and noticing bloating, and also a hollow-Ish feeling in my testicles. Any idea or advice? I’m wondering if there is some kind of cycle where I can take finasteride 3 times a week and clomid and arimadex along side for a few weeks? Please advise awaiting your reply.

  • Hey Doc. Can we take 0.5mg Every Day instead of 1MG 3 times a week? To have a similar effect and constant dht levels in blood since every 3rd day will fluctuate the DhT levels right?

  • Thanks for your great work!

I am 21 years old an I’m taking Minoxidil for about 2-3years now and I think it helps me to remain my hair status. But I’m still losing a little bit of hair at the hairline, where it is also thinning, and on the crown area. I tried to use dermaroller, platelet rich plasma therapy fot several times and I’m using coffein shampoo. I do a lot of sports and have a healthy nutrition and lifestyle.

Now my question, at which age do you recommend starting with Finasteride?

  • Hey doc, you said the half life is around 28 days. Is that from a 1mg/d dosage? Moreover, does micro dosing affect the half life?

  • Hi Dr
What has been your experience with people having side effects with oral finasteride and then switched to topical finasteride? Do they often have side effects with the topical? Thanks for your videos!

  • Thank you Dr Jayaprakash. What about taking a break from foam minoxidil? Is it the same that it can be done or will it be not recommended to do?
Thank you for the great advice and your channel.

  • The google black hole is so real! I googled ‘can my cat tell I’m pregnant before I can’ because my cat was ‘acting weird’-uhm, he always acts weird!!

  • Have anyone been experiencing hot flashes or very hot in the face & ears? Not sure if it’s finasteride, I’ve been on it for nearly 3years, only had these symptoms for 2-3 months.

  • Hi doc…I had hair transplant 1.5 yrs back..and it seems like the transplanted hair is thinning..will finasteride work in this situation? Thankyou

  • Thank you for this! So many videos on “ttc tips” and “how I got pregnant fast.” This was really refreshing and real! My googling black hole days are now over now that I am TTC and it didn’t happen right away. So easy to get caught up in it all but so stress-inducing. Much love!

  • When we opted for one more baby with my partner, we went for this guide I was able to accomplish pregnancy right after three months of following the plan and eating healthy foods. This method has changed my life-style, in spite of the fact where I`m in the aged. You can learn about this guide further by getting to Google. I remembered its name is Sofia Goρazna
    take care

  • If you take finastride and then stop, I understand that you’ll lose new hair you’ve grown, but what will it do to the thinning hair you started with before starting finastride that it helped to strengthen? Like I have some hairs that had been thinning/getting weaker before I started taking it. Will they revert back to their normal weaker state or will I lose them all together? Basically I don’t want to come off finastride and end up with less hair than when I started.

  • Why are you recycling topics when there’s so many unanswered questions left about finasteride. Don’t get me wrong I’m very grateful for these video’s but you already discussed this in a previous video. Anyways, keep up the good work!

  • You need help to GET PREGNANT? contact Dr OKOUGBE on this email

  • “the half life go the enzyme is 28 days” can you explain this? I know the half life of finasteride itself in the bloodstream is only a few hours

  • Question: why not find a topical medicine that coats the follicles to be DHT resistant? Wouldnt this have less side effects and ensure hair growth (I know I’m oversimplifying it but that’s why I’m asking this question.)

  • Earlier this month, I stopped taking finasteride after a few days due to fear mongering. I’ve started doing LLL Therapy (4 sessions so far via the iRestore helmet) but was thinking of restarting Finasteride. Will this throw off the LLL therapy or Finasteride? Basically will they both still do their jobs and be affective or should I take a break for the therapy and let Finasteride settle back into my system?

  • Really this is such helpful information thank you so much. Such a stressful time right now and this kind of community service helps.

  • I quit Fin for about 3-5 months to switch to a more natural treatment saw palmetto and rosemary essential oil. For a time, it actually looked like my hair was improving, then it all came crashing down. I now have noticeable thinning on the top of my head with excessive hairloss after showering.

Restarted Fin about a month ago along with minoxidil and Nizoral shampoo and felt stubble on my scalp.

But it’s difficult to tell if it was due to miniaturization, or if it’s new hair growing in. Time will tell.

It’s stabilized again, lesser hair loss with no progression of balding. Goal is to stop progression of hair loss and hopefully regain some, if not all, of what I lost.

  • This guy (of course Russell too) is absolutely on the ball. 1mg 3-4 times a week seems to be having the same good effect for me as 1mg per day.

  • Your two halves were destined to be together. Half of yourself had to win the race against all of your potential brothers and sisters to make it to the other half of yourself, so you could join forces with yourself and be 100% you.

  • Hey doc, can you please make a video related to thyroid hair loss, specifically for men. Thank you so much for your informative videos!

  • Just a quick question. When I looked up the half life of finasteride, it says “terminal half life of 5-6 hours” and in this video you mentioned the half-life is 28 days. I’m just curious why there’s 2 different answers. Thank you for these uploads as they are very helpful and educational

  • Ive had side effect im 21 and like my pp feels weird asf only took it like 2 weeks 1 mg, now i quiting looping what i can do know this shit is toxic asfuck but i think i work really well

  • Hey! I just quit the pill and am about to start my ttc journey! Do you have a video on how to get your period back after being on hormonal birth control? xoxo

  • That is what happened to me…got pregnant at our first try. I think mostly because it was spontaneous and I was not stressed out or pressuring myself to have a child. Basically, during sex, we decided this is the time! It was very in the moment and emotional but also we did think about having a baby for months so this time just felt right. I think it is important to get pregnant when your relationship is in a great place and you feel connected and loved. I got pregnant and remember the exact day it happened and pretty much right away I knew we conceived. I have 17 more weeks to go with our healthy baby girl.

  • Doctor, Please answer… I just stopped using minoxidil after a month using it because my scalp was itching, so my question, can i regrow my hair that has been falling of because sheding phase of minoxidil and also regrow a new hair with others option tonic serum? I also still consume finasteride, 0.8 mg daily, i only stopped the Minoxidil, not the dht blocker. Thanks

  • One question, if o get side effects means i dont need that much finasteride to archiev the results on hair? Took 1,25mg daily and experienced loss of libido after 8 months, fully recovered after 10 days without it and want to restart. Greetings from Portugal!

  • Hello, I have a question does finasteride has a side effect on beard? I’m currently growing a beard with menodixil which it has gave me great results but I’m afraid it will damage my growth. Thank you.

  • there is a chance the egg will split that will result in multiple births. the most common of these are Twins, Triplets, and Quadruplets. these births result in two three and four sets of newborns. and they are either identical and look the same, or fraternal and they all have different appearances or genders.

  • THANK YOU for the Amazon test strip recommendation.. my husband has been stressing about how much 2 tests cost at the grocery store. He keeps telling me I’m going to spend all of our money on pregnancy tests LOL

  • Is it safe to take finasteride 1mg, if I have a grade-1 fatty liver(obesity case). should I take it after changing my diet and after losing my body weight?

  • Hey doc, I notice I get often pee stamps in my underwear since using finasteride, what does it mean? should I stop the medication?

  • This is crazy I’m 35 and have no idea what she’s talking about! I really wish my mother or anyone would have taught me something about my period and body. I still feel I must hide everything and not talk about it

  • Hello sir, I love this channel..please,what is your opinion on finasteride and neurosteroids esppecialy allopregnanolone?? Is there any evidence it can cause depression and/or anxiety in some people?

  • I thought it WASN’T first come, first serve, and that it’s actually the Egg that decides whether a sperm can continue the process or die

  • This really helped me because I thought that me not getting pregnant right away meant that I was infertile. But this made me realize that I can be perfectly healthy it’ll just take time regardless. I was kind of stressing out my partner.

  • Hi. Can I ask a question? I’ve been using fina for almost two years and half. I decided to stop few months for doing few controls. Could it be a problem stopping fina for three or 4 months? Thanks

  • Hello doctor. I know that finasteride side effects are very rare and that we’ve got a lot of research on it but do you guys keep any statistics of your patients? I think it would be cool if you showed us the numbers. I’m on finasteride btw:-)

  • Hey Doc, I just have a question for my brother and he wants to know this.

He started minoxadil recently but he had a some side effects like swelling feet and hands and he quit using it the next day for good.

Will he shed now after stopping it for a day or not at all?

  • Hey doc ive been using fin for 9 months had a a disscomfort in the testicles for more than a week now….i have heard it dissapears after a while by itsell should i wait or lower the dosage maybe

  • I want to know if it needs to use hair growth capsules (vitamins) at the same time as Finasteride? Or only Finasterid would help anyway?

  • Hi, started on fin almost 3 months ago and i’m experiencing what it seems to be ED symptoms (it could be nocebo but i’m really afraid of that). What do you think about taking a break from fin in order to wash it up and then restart the medication taking 3mg/week (i’m on 1.25 everyday now). Thanks!

  • Hey.. I have just watched your video and its really spoke to me.. Me and my husband have been trying for our first baby for the last 3 years and it has affected us so much and i now suffer from such bad anxiety and feel so low all the time because of it.. it has taken over our whole life and we gave up ‘trying’ a year ago and that hasn’t helped at all and i miss the old me and so want to deal with my anixety and stop it holding me back all the time.. so saw your video and we have decided that we are going to take a break, we should have probably done this way before now but its time to step back from trying and i feel so anxious thinking we will miss out on a chance but i can’t carry on like this anymore.. its been the most heart wrenching 3 years and i think its time to take a step back xx I want to thank you so much for your video its helped so muchxx

  • if the aim of life is survival and to reproduce and pass on your genes ; why such a complicated process of fretilization, it doesn’t make sense either from an evolutionary point of view or from religious point of view. The whole process of fretilization and birth is complicated, contradicting the theme of survival and continuity…

  • I was using fin 1mg 3times a week for 90 days, hair loss decreased alot now i lose only 4-6 hairs per shower where before taking fin i would lose at least 30 hairs per shower and there wasn’t any side effects except my sex drive has decreased a little bit but not to the point where i face problem for erection. But last week i decided to take Fin every other day now my sex drive is very low should i continue taking every other day or i go back to 3 times a week? The only reason that i increased the frequency is because i wanted to stop my hair loss completely (4-6 for me is still something ) hope i get respond
