All dizygotic, or fraternal, twins are dichorionic.   Some monozygotic (identical) twins may also be dichorionic. Dichorionic twins have two individual placentas, although sometimes the placentas can fuse together. Twins that are dichorionic are by definition also diamniotic, since each amniotic sac has its own outer membrane. A dichorionic diamniotic (DCDA) twin pregnancy is a type of twin pregnancy where each twin has its own chorionic and amniotic sacs. This type occurs most commonly with dizygotic twins, but may also occur with monozygotic twin pregnancies.

This type of pregnancy may have characteristic findings on. Diamniotic dichorionic pregnancy means that both the babies are in separate sacs. They will have separate blood supply from the mother and there.

Your twins are ‘dichorionic’. About two thirds of twin pregnancies are dichorionic. This means there are two separate pregnancy sacs containing their own separate placenta (afterbirth) and amniotic fluid. Most of the time this occurs when two different sperm fertilize two different eggs and the babies are therefore non-identical. The term dichorionic refers to multiple gestations with two distinct placental disks (or two chorions), and the term diamniotic describes a pregnancy with two distinct amniotic cavities.

A dichorionic diamniotic twin pregnancy is a twin pregnancy. In dichorionic twins, there might be a difference in the genetic growth potential in some cases, but frequently growth discordance is a consequence of placental insufficiency, e.g., defective trophoblast invasion or impaired development of uteroplacental circulation. one of two offspring produced in the same pregnancy; twins occur about once in every 86 births. Dizygotic or fraternal twins develop from two separate ova fertilized at the same time.

They may be of the same sex or of opposite sexes, and are no more similar. A dichorionic triamniotic (DCTA) triplet pregnancy is a type a multifetal pregnancy where two of the triplets are monochorionic. This type of pregnancy can carry a unique set of complications.
