Eating your placenta after giving birth (placentophagy) can pose harm to both you and your baby. The placenta is an intricate organ that nourishes the growing fetus by exchanging nutrients and oxygen and filtering waste products via the umbilical cord. The most common placenta preparation — creating a capsule — is made by steaming and dehydrating the placenta or processing the raw placenta. Little ones are far more susceptible, for example, to bacteria that eating placenta may introduce.

Though the decision to consume your own placenta should be made with caution, never eat someone else’s placenta, as illnesses that can be transmitted by blood—hepatitis, HIV, etc.—may potentially be present. While there doesn’t seem to be any proof that eating your placenta can help you, there is some proof that it can hurt. If you eat it “fresh” or raw, it might spread infection. But then I started researching it.

And what I found out about the benefits of eating your placenta was surprising to me. After months of doing my homework, I knew I wanted to give it a try and I am so glad that I did. Brief History of Placentophagy. Nearly every mammal ingests its placenta after the birth. 15 Reasons to Consume Your Placenta After Birth.

Placentophagy is the act of consuming one’s afterbirth soon after labor and delivery. Its proponents say that there is a wide number of benefits to this practice, from stress management to improving t. • Personal testimony here with placenta encapsulationwanting to breastfeed my child naturally I opted to have my placenta kept until I determined if I could produce milk on my own. After 72 hours of desperately trying with zero breast milk and minimal colostrum I called and she brought it to me within 24 hours. 48 hours later I was mass producing milk and did so for nearly 2 years. There are benefits from it so many positive things he didn’t mention and although I cannot vouch for the post depression effectiveness, the gift of health being able to nurse my child is priceless

  • I cant stand people that eat or do things for there “health benifits” when there Is no scientific basis and when u tell them that they get mad

  • The reasons why animals eat their afterbirth and placenta is because they don’t have hands to rip their babies out of the after birth or take the placenta off like chimpanzees and humans

  • Acts 17:30
In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to REPENT.

  • Whaaaat? I came here to find out if I should eat my wife’s placenta and he goes off on a tangent about fracking and earthquakes? I’m laughing, like, how sidetracked did the host just get.

  • I thought it was weird with my first but I Encapsulated my placenta with my second and found it so helpful and chose to do it again with my third! My husband called them my Happy pills

  • How about we stop comparing ourselves to instinctual, herbivores that probably eat it to keep predators away, and use our fucking brains instead. WE DON’T EAT PLACENTA!

  • that’s gross disgusting in the world even put something that is nasty eating other person in the day or creepy or run away from them

  • Well placenta contain stuff which support life system of an unborn child which means if a person eat its placenta then there will be affect of over consumption of those organic compounds with lead mercury and cadmium which is not good for human body in any medical condition. If you eat someone else placenta then may be your body will not accept it and may leads to serious health issue.

  • I always wondered what happened to mine, i saw they brought a big trash can but they did not put the placenta inside instead the doctor took it with him n he carried it in protective way i didnt think much but next time im going to take it n plant it

  • Animals also eat their own feces and some also eat their own babies…so if this is your rationale…I believe you should think about what you are actually doing.  Placenta is human flesh…which would be considered cannablism.  Humans are not animals and before eating this part of your own body, you should also think of the moral/ethical side of this practice, not just the physical aspect of eating it for nutritional value.  Humans are complex beings and our physicality is only one part of the human existance. Their are other implications, as a human that you should consider as well.

  • All these comments are so rude and mostly from men. It could work like a placebo effect which is something else that scientist can’t explain but have seen signs of it somehow helping people. I’m not even pregnant but I would be interested in exploring this idea to avoid ptsd after pregnancy since it runs in my family. God forbid anyone have even the slightest bit of an open mind these days.

  • People are fucking RETARDED. The placenta IS NOT HUMAN FLESH. Flesh contains muscles and fat in it, PLACENTA does not have muscles or fat. Its not Cannibalism because she they arent eating another human being. Eating the placenta helps women raise their milk quantities and can be made in pills, Also give them energy. You cannot eat ANYONE ELSES placenta beside your own. Highly dangerous.

  • What if the reason the organ is eaten in the while is an evolutionary response to not have warm fresh bloody meat luring predators. What if that is all it is, you’d look pretty silly eating it for no reason.

  • Think about after you give birth and after everything is done a chef comes in the room and asks ” do you want your placenta medium rare or well done?”

  • Rabbits eat their placentas not for health benefits, but to keep predators from scenting blood. They’re literally eating food they are not normally capable of eating, just to protect their babies. I have no idea what sort of health effects it has on them after the fact:\

  • Disgusting savages! Medical cannibalism is cannibalism and people who practice it will end up in Hell. Science has evidence of this practice being unhealthy.

  • For fuck’s sake don’t eat your placenta……it’s fucking disgusting. I don’t care if science even says it gives you superpowers. I would never even touch a woman that has consumed her placenta. Hard to bilieve freaks actually consume it. Zombies!

  • Ok everyone here besides vegans and vegetarians are cannibals so shut up saying “ewwww that’s cannibalism” cuz guess what we are animals and we eat other animals like cows and pigs

  • One would think that if the placenta contained such benefitial nutrients then the body would not expel it in the first place… just sayin…. im pretty sure there is a reason excreated things should remain external to the body.

  • My pregnancy book wrote literally this: Feed your placenta to your man, it will make him devote to you for all your life. After reading it I thought it was funny and gross at the same time so I asked my husband if he would like some… sadly he denied my offer

  • But the majority of studies were done with dogs and mice?…wouldn’t studies on humans help reveal / dispel if there any actual correlations?

  • Wow so first of all why is there a man telling women whether or not it’s ‘safe’ to consume YOUR own placenta. Number one rule: NO UTERUS NO OPINION!
Second of all.. Is takes a celebrity to tweet about it for doctors to decide to do further research on the matter?? What a brainwashed small minded world we live in. Consuming your placenta after birth has been done for THOUSANDS of years by all of our ancestors. Why in the new age do we always have to get the opinion of the privileged MAN when it comes to our own FEMALE bodies. Women need to take back their own bodies & stop listening to what western medicine has to say all the time. Connect with your mothers & grandmothers. These are the women you need to surround your self with during birth. It’s a spiritual miracle that no man will ever experience & therefore never understand. Take back YOUR BIRTH and do whatever you feel is right! Mother Nature is guide.

  • Gross,..certain animals only, eat it to cut down on the smell of new give their baby time to get up on their feet…still human,s……gross.

  • even if its for nutritional value, that’s fucked up to eat after birth. you can simply live your life eating healthy general food after giving birth instead of eating what fucking grew inside of you. nasty..

  • There are people who ate placenta after birth.
    Me:Fu*k are they goats
Me Also:naah it didn’t matter there are also those people who ate their Sperm

  • Reading the description of this video made me think the question “WTF is wrong with you?” But because it actually isn’t you asking the question I will direct that comment to anyone that actually does this.

    Seriously…….get help.

  • Anyone who talks like this you can’t trust. It’s natural to keep it on because it falls off naturally and cutting and clamping instruments are a modern invention.

Cut off your baby’s placenta at birth, vaccinate them with neurotoxins at 6 months, and continue to do so until your child is autistic. Sound’s good!!

  • I don’t see how this is wrong at all. I don’t even see how this would be wrong for vegans if you see it from the spirit of the law instead of the letter of the law.

  • Most animals eat the placenta so the scent does not attract predators to their vulnerable young… not for nutrition! And humans, obviously, don’t need to stop predators from finding them lmfao

  • I don’t understand all the hatred here. These people did not do it out of evil or to disgust you, but for health benefits that they believe for themselves and their babies. Nobody is making you do things you don’t want. Have some respect, people. Why do other people have to do what you do and think like you? Does it affect you?

  • I have not indulged in placentophagy myself; but I have given birth twice, once naturally and once by C-section, and I can state (anecdotally, of course) that one is starving post-birth (the moreso because they don’t want to let you eat anything-although you can drink-in case they need to use a general anaesthetic on you in an emergency), and after the natural birth particularly, I found myself craving rare-to-raw meat in particular. Had it been offered to me I would happily have eaten the damned thing raw; raw liver would also have probably fit the bill, more than raw beef, even. I think it was a combination of the mouthfeel and blood as well as the taste I was after.

I’ve heard that animals eat the afterbirth to both clean the area up so as to not attract predators, and as a bonus, as a way to gain additional nutrients, especially iron and protein, after what is, after all, a hell of a work-out. I mean, I felt like I could have gotten up and run a marathon once the endorphins hit; but I certainly was pretty exhausted by it all. So I wonder if the urge is carried over from that?

I suspected that it might be tied to the chemicals released by giving birth vaginally, as well, because while I was certainly hungry after the C-section as well, I didn’t feel such a strong urge for raw placenta/liver as I did after giving birth naturally.

And now I wonder how many of those weird food cravings during pregnancy are our brain getting us used to going, “I want to eat that!” and just doing so without thinking about how much it might normally gross us out, so as to prepare us to automatically just eat the placenta without thinking much about it. Certainly herbivores wouldn’t normally eat that type of thing. I wonder if any of them display weird pregnancy-related food cravings, and if they would eat a raw-meat/organ alternative offered to them immediately post-birth in lieu of the afterbirth? Hmm. Anyone with cows, horses, or sheep notice any weird food cravings in your pregnant animals? (Of course, what a domesticated animal is craving, and what it has access to eat, might be two completely different things).

Now I kind of want to do a study…

  • no study will ever say placenta is good becouse then people will be more enlightended to the fact that the human body is allready in perfect health if you just give it what it needs…no big drug company can make millions from weomen privatley placenta eating at home so there never gonna push it.

  • Eating placenta is honestly just cannibalism. Placenta is also an organ that the baby creates, not the mother. It is illegal to eat human tissue, even if that tissue belongs to you.

  • I mean… animals eat their own shit too, not to mention eating their own babies… but yea! I mean, if it’s proven to have all of these nutrients, both common and unique, then why not?

  • Also eating rhino? (I think it’s rhino) horns make you have a massive boner because that’s how penises work apparently… I have also heard from the friend of a fatman that sleeping with underage virgins cures your puffpenis.

  • It can have risks, and barely any benefits.
    I’m considering doing it anyway.
    If someone wanna argue with me, show me the reasons why not to, I’m interested in it (also this video is old, about the lead and mercury and stuff found in the placenta, more recent studies show that those levels are below the dangerous levels for the human body;
and any bacteria could be eliminated by cooking it properly)

  • It has become very clear that sci-show is establishment biased do you think that dogs and every other mammal on earth are doing something intuitively and are wrong this sight is selling ignorance to just plain lying

  • I thought animals ate their placenta because when you are breastfeeding your offspring you couldn’t really go look for food.
Also everything is natural. Everything is made out of elements created in the big bang and following chemical reactions. Things are created by people, made of those element. The specific situation that sets up the person to create the thing comes from items made of the elements.

  • When i had my baby i took my baby’s placenta to where his father grew up and we barried it so that way baby will always know where home is. Its a navajo tradition. But i NEVER heard of people eating it!!! Omg gross..

  • Does the placenta provide any real health benefits?

Yes it does for the baby. The mother fills up on placenta, so she doesn`t eat the baby

  • Animals eat their own placenta, yes. They also eat their own babies and rape and cannibalize each other and shit/piss everywhere and kill each other over things like food and territory and don’t always eat what they kill:D

  • I’m surprised people don’t know about this. I meanI don’t judge them, you can’t know if you’re never told. But that’s probably why it’s not as disgusting for me. I was always told it was beneficial, and natural, but that you didn’t have to

  • People don’t get that animals could have different enzymes that can handle eating that placenta. eeew I would never, its not a natural instinct to us man.

  • Could it of been 100 or so wells wouldn’t do much but since there are so many now, their has been a cumulative effect with the whole earthquake thing?

  • Why is it usually women who come up with these illogical ideas when it comes to “natural” “organic” “healthy” without first knowing what they’re talking about?

  • Yet ppl have no problem eating ox tails (ass), sausage links (intestines), hot dogs (ALL the ground up parts), etc. It’s a double standard. If society didn’t teach us to drink from a cow’s teet, then we’d all be drinking breast milk into old age. We’re conditioned by our culture. Now I’m not for eating placenta, but I’m not against it either. Vegans seem to be the only consistent dieters in terms of their personal values. If you don’t like human parts, then animal parts are no different.

  • Here in Japan, there are a lot of face masks and creams on the market which supposedly contain placenta. Many beauty products claim to have some high-tech ingredients like rejuvenating stem cells from placenta which is mostly bs I guess, but is it actually possible that stem cells from another person can be injected into our body? Through creams or maybe any other method, to reverse ageing?

  • I’m always gonna go with evidence. I understand the building blocks of our health is what is provided for us in this earth. But when I heard about this…hell no.

  • Shows a picture of a diagram showing earthquakes from 1973-2014, and this video was in the middle of 2015… but said “recent” earthquakes…??!??!!!

  • That’s just nasty that’s another form of cannibalism would humans eat another insides of another human let alone their own that’s nasty

  • I’m a pregnant lady.. came across this video before having my glass of milk.. now I’m definitely sure that I’m deprived of my nutrients as the glass of milk is going down the sink.. in no ways i can eat or drink water till this graphic images goes out from my mind… Aaaarrrggghhh!!!

P.S i have no idea why this video was suggested to me

  • Geobeats
You say “While it’s not scientifically proven, ingesting placenta is believed to increase breast milk production and decrease the risk of post-partum depression in new mothers. Many women report a boost in energy.” Suuuuuuurrrre. Some people believe the earth is flat. You have no idea what you are babbling about. You’re a gullible idiot pushing misinformation.

  • Placentas and umbilical cords are prized (and expensive) items for medical research because they contain stem cells to be used in research and various therapies. I doubt if any hospital throws them in the garbage anymore.

  • Some people are stupid and will try anything they find on the internet. Of course, this fad was started by an idiot who thinks, just because she’s an actress, she should be followed no matter how misinformed and gullible she is and requires you to be to follow her.

  • Almost all mammals eat the placenta after birth. Even rabbits who do not eat meat. Humans have been doing it for thousands of years so no one just came up with this out of no where…. What is there to be ashamed of or freaked out about!? Nothing in my opinion.

  • On the ground, much much hungry people, and many tons of edible good human flesh of the dead people buried in the ground (so it’s a good meat rotted in the ground) is better if it is a human nutritional meat (it is no longer necessary to deceased people) gave eaten alive very hungry people to save them from starvation (it is necessary to save the living from the people famine).

  • We burry the mother’s placenta in a tree trunk. And we made sure no wild animals would eat it or be able to dig it up. So burry it deep. It’s kinda like giving back to mother earth. This is what we do in our village in the far east. South east asia.

  • I plan to eat my placenta. I had a hard time producing enough milk last time so this time I will be eating it raw in the form of smoothies:)

  • I don’t see anything wrong or not wrong about it. It’s a preference and I respect individual’s choice. Some people eat meat n some don’t and believe we can live without eating meat. Some people don’t like the idea of killing. Some eat insects for nutrients and taste while some find it disgusting. I eat meat,I don’t eat bugs, and I chose not to eat my placenta. Yet, i respect the people who choose otherwise and I don’t judge by that. It’s their choice n they did it for health benefits.

  • It is a newborn baby’s right to keep the placenta until the cord comes off naturally after a while. Newborns get a lot of needed nutrition and blood from it. Unfortunately, most of the time the placenta is disconnected as soon as the baby comes out. Mothers had better not steal it from their babies. If somebody else takes it from the baby and eats it that is cannibalism and sounds like practicing Satanism. Supposedly there is black market for selling placentas for the crazies.

  • those earthquakes are made because the water is less dense so the ground can break off and fall in the water and that causes the earthquake

  • 0:15 sometimes what sometimes blended into a fine liquid and injected into your veins, sometimes dehydrated dry as hell blended crushed obliterated into fine powder and snorted?

  • The diagram that was used in the placenta part of your program us actually abnormal. What was shown was a case of placenta previa which if not diagnosed before delivery will cause massive hemorrhage.

  • I had no idea that we humans like most all other female mammals eat placenta. The thought of it doesn’t tickle my taste buds. =P But we are animals, and this is something done natrually in nature. Another reason mammal mothers eat after birth is to keep a low profile from predators, who will smell it and eat the baby.

  • Human meat contains dangerous prions which can damage your brain and give you a long and painful disease called man human disease which will slowly kill you

  • Isn’t it not cannibalism because it says cannibalism is when you eat ANOTHER HUMAN BEINGS flesh or organs
They call this self-cannibalism or something

  • between the small hard to make out thumbnail and the title I thought this was going to be about some new phenomenon of babies trying to eat or swallow the placenta in the womb

  • Who in the hell came up with this idea??? And how could ANYONE want to eat a human organ???

You might as well carve off your love handles and throw them on the frying pan!
Or perhaps your dead grandfather’s brain is more preferable?

Jesus Christ! I just can’t get over this! A placenta is not something you bloody eat!
Nor is it something you keep! You throw the goddamn thing AWAY and pretend that it never came out of your body!

  • I plan on eating mine, cooking it in some sort of dish and seeing if I can get my friends and family to eat it with me. If not, more for me!

  • So what if it “has been practiced by the majority of animals on the planet in since their beginning” that’s just going to show what a primitive, unnecessary and disgusting action it is to eat a placenta. We have evolved far enough that we do not need to supplement ourselves by eating filth. The placenta is shed for a reason. And does it really matter if animals do it? We’re human my cat also licks its ass and you don’t see anyone doing that do you?
